2 event Cup tracks? Which are worthy, which are not...

What tracks would you like to see get a second race that don't, and which would you like to see have a repeat visit erased? Personally I think the top candidates for not seeing a second race in a year are Kansas City and Atlanta, but Phoenix and Vegas might be worth looking at too- it always seems the crowds there look sparser than other places on TV but maybe they're better attended than they appear. I wouldn't mind seeing Dover get 2; I'm surprised that so many pushed for Richmond to lose its second race, and that seems to have worked. It would be hard to argue against 'Dega, Charlotte, Martinsville, Bristol and Darlington which are maybe the 5 most exciting tracks and overall experiences in the sport. Maybe they should scrap the late summer date at Daytona to make the 500 even more a standout? Nashville might be an option for a second visit if they can secure the Fairgrounds track for one and the super speedway for the other; although the new stadium they've crowded in right next to it would make it problematic. Would have to ensure nothing major is going on there at the same time for crowd movement and parking.

Welcome to RF

Thanks for the welcome! I've been here as a reader for a while, but first post I guess. I didn't know that NASCAR owned Phoenix and Daytona, that is a good point.

I'm surprised Atlanta and Darlington got second dates after going a number of years with just 1. I wish Kentucky still had a date, but not having any nearby hotels hurt it as much as anything else.

Daytona, Charlotte, Darlington, Bristol, Martinsville. Everywhere else should only have one race. Look at what it did to the crowds at Pocono, Dover, Loudon, etc. The optics are way better on TV when you get 70k at one race than 45k at 2 races, and it makes the race feel like a big event.

Good first thread, welcome. Those that deserve 2:

Daytona

Talladega

Martinsville

Bristol

Las Vegas

Charlotte

Darlington

Gulp………

Richmond

So if no other tracks get a 2nd date, how do you make up a full schedule. Are there that many tracks with the ability to have a cup race? Safety, logistics, garages etc etc, it takes a lot for a track to host a cup race.

Racing at the same place multiple times a year isn't bad or anything necessarily, but it does feel like a holdover from a prior era of the sport to me in some ways. How many tracks fill the stands twice a year? How many would probably be more likely to feel like a major, significant event each season if it was the one time they showed up? I dunno.
Are there that many tracks with the ability to have a cup race?
Allow me to say the most controversial and hottest of takes (in spite of being absolutely, 100% objectively, demonstratably correct): It doesn't matter how many tracks have the ability to host a Cup race anymore.

No, but I’m also one of those people that think a 30-32 race schedule is ideal. Even some die hards feel the burnout at the end of the year, and it would get them away from the NFL.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the season end with the Southern 500 on Labor Day weekend.

Two dates:

Daytona
Talladega
Charlotte
Martinsville
Kansas
Darlington

Bristol's spring race should move to North Wilkesboro.
Las Vegas and Phoenix should both lose a race to make room for a Pacific Northwest and a Denver-area race.
Atlanta should lose one to make room for Rockingham.

I would like to see Chicagoland make a comeback. A good many of the mile-and-a-half races with this car have been entertaining and I think they would put on a good show there as well. I would take the spring date from Phoenix and give it to North Wilkesboro and then swap places on the schedule with Texas, thus restoring the April Bristol-North Wilkesboro-Martinsville short track swing from the early 90s.

The 14.2 mile Nürburgring race would be an eight hour timed race. Utilizing contracted officials that are competent enough to use locale yellows and minimize using a safety car.

A long lost version of a Frank Sinatra song . . .

Chicargo, Chicargo, that toddling town
Chicargo, Chicargo, I will show you around, I love it
Bet your bottom dollar you'll lose the blues in Chicargo, Chicargo
The town that Billy Sunday could not shut down

On State Street, that great street, I just want to say
They do things they don't do on Broadway
They have the time, the time of their life
I saw a man, he danced with his wife
In Chicargo, Chicargo, my hometown
