The Duels at Daytona

And this is why I really don't follow NASCAR regularly anymore. This is why NASCAR is not a serious organization.

If it happened on the backstretch or turn 3, sure, throw the caution. But once they get off turn 4, if there's a wreck, let them race to the checkered flag. So pathetic. And don't even say anything about safety. There was no safety risk letting them race to the checkered flag. The safety crews would not have gotten there any quicker. You just robbed fans on a good finish.

A preview of the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

How many times do they throw a caution on the last lap closing in on the finish line? Never in recent memory per my recollection.

For a sport obsessed with “Game 7” moments to the point of sabotaging the legitimacy of its product…

NASCAR sure does love costing the fans a Mark Martin/Kevin Harvick photo finish by throwing the yellow 50 yards from the checkered flag.

Every single time ... except that one time.

Mark Martin won the 2007 Daytona 500 for like the 23rd time tonight. And the 1990 Winston Cup championship. 😇

And by being obsessed with "Game 7" moments, you take away anything special about it. The special part of "Game 7" moments is they don't happen every year.

The last time the NBA Finals had a Game 7 was 2016. Since then they've had NBA Finals that were a 4 - 0 sweep and fairly dominant 4 - 1 victories. If "Game 7's" happened in the NBA Finals every year, it would lose its special quality. And people would stop bothering to watch the first 6 games of the NBA Finals. It's amazing to me that NASCAR just can't grasp that.

I'm a glutton for punishment. Every year I kind of hope NASCAR has learned it's lessons. Every year, it's like "same ole NASCAR". Didn't expect to happen even before the Daytona 500, lol.

By throwing the caution you didn't slow the field down and you didn't cause one car that would've been hit not to have been hit. I liked Harvick when he was at Stewart-Haas. Still like Harvick but he's wrong on this one. Not surprised though. People complain about the NFL, but it's obvious NASCAR rules the booth with an iron fist. They are never allowed to even remotely criticize NASCAR for a decision.

You seem to be doing a good job of it, what's the problem?

We might be getting our first glimpse of the 2025 season of this boob. It’s never too early to prepare for the upcoming season

Big talk from folks who don't have their butts on the line.

Those people in the booth make more in a year than a lot of us will make in 20. Your Mike Joy, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Dale Jr., Jeff Burton types, they have more money than they'll ever spend. They're not at risk.

I mean can you imagine if NASCAR forced FOX to fire Kevin Harvick or Clint Bowyer for criticizing a call? Can you say negative press coverage?

The problem with NASCAR is they will never admit if they made a mistake. Because they will never admit that (even to themselves), it means they will keep making the SAME MISTAKES instead of actually learning from their mistakes. I have no doubt that if the same thing happens on Sunday in the Daytona 500, they'll make the same INCORRECT decision.

Random fans like us on a random message board that I seriously doubt NASCAR even knows about don't matter. When you get broadcasters, drivers, owners and other media personalities criticizing decisions. That's when it matters and that's the only thing that can lead to change.

Smart decision or not, it's been decided. For me, I may not agree, but what's done is done. Not going to lose any sleep or
argue until dawn. Too hard on the mind and body.

My level of commitment to remaining petty and churlish over 1990 and 2007 is absolutely astonishing. 😉

While I'm at it ... Myles Jack Wasn't Down!
