Kasey Kahne returns for one-off with RCR

Man this is cool. I am so happy for him. There were rumors he was going to return a few years ago I remember. I wonder if this is like an audition and if things go well he might get a more full time ride. I know his health prevented him from running those longer races but always wondered why he did not just go to the shorter Truck or Xfinity races.

That’s really awesome, damn he never ages
Right? When I saw him in that vid I thought it was a flashback. That my friends is partly because of genes and partly because of good health. That's why it's so ironic that his career stalled because of health - he always worked really hard to be in great shape. I am not sure if folks remember his last Cup race at the Southern 500 but apparently he got out of the car and was extremely ill and they put a heart-rate monitor on him and his heart rate was so high it would not register on the monitor. That was shockingly close to death. Then apparently he went through some tough stuff in his personal life where the mother of his son Tanner and he split and she ended up with his former engineer on the 5 car. Dude bounced back though and it's awesome to see him doing this. I wish I could have handled health issues and personal turmoil in my life so well.

Kasey was on the Dale Jr Download this week, good episode.

Kasey was on the Dale Jr Download this week, good episode.
I just watched this last night and man you are right. It was great. One thing I found so interesting about it was when they were talking about how they all used to hang out at times. I guess the first time Dale Jr met Kyle Larson Kyle had been hanging out at Kasey's watching The Masters and they all ended up at Dale Jr's that night? I did not know of any connection between Kasey and Larson so wondering why he was just hanging out with Kasey. Also there was another time Kasey ended up at Dale Jr's and Kasey was driving his really nice car through the woods? LOL. Dale Jr was shocked it was not damaged with what Kasey was doing with it apparently.

It really put a few things into perspective for me though - One being that Kasey was just rushed up too quickly. Too many people saw the Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart comparisons and wanted the next big thing. That said though, I had no idea that Kasey was a Bill Elliott fan and that it was Bill that called him in mid-2003 to let him know he was retiring and they wanted him in the 9. I really thought Bill made that decision after 2003 but I guess not. How cool though that Bill called him and stuck with him through 2004 to show him the ropes. The other thing is that while I always thought Kasey's health played a part in his decline obviously since he left for health issues this interview left me feeling that health was the main reason for his lack of performance those last few years in the 5. I had completely forgot about his famous interview at New Hampshire that year and now he knows he was dealing with head injuries after that.

All in all it was a really great interview and showed another side of Kasey to me that I never knew when I was a fan of his. I am also glad to hear he is open to running more NASCAR after the Rock but if this is his farewell I will enjoy it no matter the result.

He was really good. If I remember correctly, he won for every team and manufacturer he raced for. Kinda like Kurt Busch.
Yes - He won in equipment that other's rarely won in such as RPM and Red Bull. His win in the Red Bull car might be my favorite of his career. I have probably watched the last restart of his win in Atlanta where he beat Kenseth 100 times. Really showed how great he could be when he was right. Also the way he drove past Jeff Gordon in the tunnel turn at Pocono. Every time I see it I feel like there is no way the car should stick.
