Dodge got into trucks at the beginning (1995) and eventually joined Cup/BGN six years later. Toyota joined trucks in like 2003 or '04 or whenever, and made it to Cup/BGN a few years later. Hopefully this means a new manufacturer has plans to be in every series at some point

From the Catchfence article:
Dodge’s reentry into the series is expected to be more streamlined than its previous tenure. The introduction of the Ilmor spec engine in 2018 has standardized power plants across the series, reducing costs for team owners and easing manufacturer integration.
Now I don't remember this paragraph at the end of the article when I first read it. Maybe I missed it; maybe it was added?

Dodge is also searching for an engine manufacturer to provide power for a potential return to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2028.
