SOFTER left side tires for Lost Wages …

NASCAR Cup Series — Race No. 5 – 267 laps / 400.5 miles
Las Vegas Motor Speedway (1.5-mile oval) – Las Vegas, Nev.
Fast Facts for March 15-16, 2025
Tire: Goodyear Eagle 18-inch Speedway Radials

Set limits: Cup: 1 set for practice, 1 set for qualifying and 9 sets for the race (8 race sets plus 1 set transferred from qualifying).

Tire codes: Left-side — D-5184; Right side — D-5222

Tire Circumference: Left side — 2,263 mm (89.09 in.); Right-side — 2,277 mm (89.65 in.)

Minimum Recommended Inflation: Left Front — 20 psi; Left Rear — 22 psi; Right Front — 50 psi; Right Rear — 46 psi

Notes – Left-side tire change for Cup cars at Las Vegas:Being on the 18-inch bead diameter tire, NASCAR Cup teams will run a different tire set-up than those in the Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series at Las Vegas this weekend . . . this is the same right-side tires that Cup teams ran twice at Las Vegas last season . . . this is a different left-side tire code than Cup teams ran at this track last season (compound change for more tire wear and lap-time fall-off) . . . Cup teams ran this same tire set-up on the Charlotte oval, Darlington and Homestead last season… with this 18-inch tire, and its lower profile sidewall, Cup cars do not run inner liners in any of their tires.

Goodyear quote – Stu Grant, Goodyear’s general manager of global race tires: “Generally speaking, the track surface at Las Vegas does not produce a lot of tire wear on its own. We have worked over the past several seasons at designing out tires to wear more, and we have made a change to the left-side for this weekend’s Cup race to do just that. Wear is an important part of racing in that it allows the tires to run ‘cooler’ and produce more fall-off over the course of a run.”

one of my favorite tracks on the calendar, everything feels bigger in Vegas. Hopefully one year soon, this is the track that will host the NASCAR Championship-Bowl

'Lost Wages'!!

Taking the red eye out of Vegas tonight and didn't notice anything in the airport that a person would have known the race was in town this weekend

Do most airports advertise when NASCAR is in town? Genuine question. I never fly anywhere, so I don’t know.

Airports themselves don't advertise. The series or track pays for any ads or displays at the airport. I remember a few decades ago when the open-wheelers were running at Charlotte. There was a show car in the airport's central concourse. No clue what series do now; I only fly one or twice a year and those rarely overlap with an airport near a track when a race is upcoming.

@wi_racefan, did you see any promotion around town?

I didn't stay in town. But I didn't notice anything on my route to the airport

Damned if I'm paying $20 for anything to eat at an entertainment venue. You can get a great full meal in town for that. It wouldn't be the first time I've strapped half a Subway to each calf, or stuffed a couple of PB&Js inside my seat cushion, etc. Hell, I've been to plenty of races without eating anything. Stuff something down just before going in and have something waiting in the car.

I still haven’t forgotten the $23 cans of beer and $11 bottles of water at Tinley Park. I didn’t even bother looking at food prices but I imagine a hot dog would have been $25-30

…and they still had the nerve to leave tip jars everywhere

We are definitely firing up the Weber kettle today.
MUCH better weather than yesterday. We about froze to death last night. The stands were empty.

This is going to be fun. Need some sun on that track.
