That's a great question.

I feel like "back in the old days" teams would help each other in situations like this no matter what. But in modern NASCAR? Not so sure. I wonder what the 20 team would have done if there wasn't another JGR/23XI pit stall available
 
It opens up the scenario of using the best positioned pit to do multiple cars. Say from the number 1 pit box
 
No, it doesn’t.

The rules require each car to use only its own pit box and crew. The big brain prevented a wheel coming off on track and NASCAR correctly chose not to issue a penalty.

It's another one of those 'Brilliant today, illegal tomorrow.' racing things.

Next time Bell will stop in the nearest Toyota pit, wait until conditions permit, then reverse to his own stall.

NASCAR did penalize them and the penalty for breaking that rule is starting at the end of the longest line for "pitting outside the box" which any team would rather over a 2 lap penalty and loss of 2 crew members next week.

It might cover it, but this was repairs outside the box I'm not sure this is the same.
