Larson overtakes Elliott has top merchandise seller

The truth doesn’t stop being true just because time passes. I give Larson credit for his personal atonement but it doesn’t change the fact around who jumped on his bandwagon back in 2020.
Are you saying he got more fans from saying the n word? That kind of thinking might make sense to racists, white supremacists and other half wits, but it didn't fly with mainstream corporations and racing fans. They dropped him like a hot potato. Larson make a turnaround, got some education, made his peace and moved on.

I mean, it’s an objective fact that he saw an explosion in popularity after the n word incident. I know it’s an uncomfortable truth but there is a portion of Larson’s fanbase that jumped on board for the racism.

If you had any proof of that other than your opinion it might mean something.

I went to races in 2019 and 2021. I didn’t really see any 42 gear but I sure as **** saw a lot of 5 gear.

Also, data is fun:

Here are the top selling diecasts in 2019: https://www.nascar.com/gallery/top-10-selling-die-casts-of-lionel-racing/

In 2021, Larson had two of the top five best selling diecasts: https://www.nascar.com/news-media/2021/12/16/2021-lionel-racing-nascar-die-cast-best-sellers/amp/

What happened in the interim? Winning a championship alone doesn’t account for such a quick increase in popularity.

I was kind of shocked when I saw this the other day. The cheers for Elliott were far louder for him than any others. Maybe that's different in other parts of the country.

Maybe this is due to the fact Larson can win in about anything and Elliott...his dad was Bill.

Correlation isn't causation.

It looks like the Okie, C.Bell is the most popular Yota driver. His career has been terribly stunted by sold out Joe and his no dirt racing policy.

Yep, two of the last three years in the final four, and would have been three of three if the ****** Chevys hadn't pulled their bull****. Coach has totally screwed him.

Not so much a grouch as just BRUTALLY honest. I'm not nearly as grumpy as I appear to be in a one dimensional medium like social media. If we were having this conversation in person, we'd probably both be laughing, even if you disagree with me. :)
Never have seen you as a grouch. One of my favs here.....

I really don't think (Larson) is, he has hardly any more personality than Chase which they all complain about, but an added smugness and entitledness that's super annoying, his fans also work against him hard.
Two examples of the same thing. Few of us here have any idea how drivers or forum members are in the 'real world'.

Personality doesn't make someone likeable or not for me, as far as the other stuff idk I don't keep up with him enough to know. So maybe you're right.

Yeah like me lol. I know I can come off as an a**hole here, but that's just because I'm a very opinionated person. Plus I treat people how they treat me. But I'm a pretty good chill dude if we're just talking and hanging out.

Here's my deal with Larson. The guy literally lost everything after what happened in 2020. I might be mistaken but he was in the process of building a new home. Him and his family had to sell out and turned to short track racing to make a living. Fortunately for me 2020 was the best opportunity I ever had to attend short track races. I watched Kyle and his wife working his souvenir trailer just like any other middle of the road hard core dirt track racer. He was there hanging t-shirts on the rack for sale. He was available to anyone who wanted to talk. He gained my respect by not being bitter but focusing on what he could do to improve life for his family and himself. You could see how he changed over the course of 2020. That year I watched him race a sprint car in ways I had never seen, including watching Kinser in his heydays. At times recently I am seeing a bit of arrogance in his interviews and that doesn't make me more of a fan.
Non the less he gets much respect from me for how he has persevered over the years and his race craft.

I was a big Larson fan from 2012 to early 2020. My former name on this site was Larsonfan1995. When Jeff Burton was slowing down and eventually retired, I was looking for a driver. Larson came to race up in the northeast in 2012 and I could see the talent. I knew he was on the path to NASCAR, and I am a way bigger fan of dirt racing than I am of NASCAR, so he was easy to like. When the whole scandal went down, I was really not happy with him. I gravitated more to Kyle Busch, Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott during the season he was out. I still pull for Larson but he isn’t head and shoulders above the rest like he used to be, he’s just one of the group I pull for. I have a bunch of 42 diecasts and hats, but only one 5 hat and no diecasts. I’m one of the few that went the opposite way, and it’s sickening to me that so many people only like him for saying a slur on a hot mic. He is definitely doing his best to make up for his mistake by racing everything, everywhere and doing appearances and working with Urban Youth Racing School, but it will always be on his record.

I’m late to this and apologies for that but if I may, do you think you might he a tad oversimplifying this? I’m sure some racist people jumped on board when he came back, I’m not disputing that. But….I think Larson joining then most popular team with the blessing and recruitment from one of the most popular drivers ever and then going out to have one of the most dominant seasons ever has a lot to do with his surging popularity.
