The Announcers Thread

Sounds like pretty standard stuff. I've seen similar with multiple cable and satellite services over the decades. Usually a new agreement is reached before the old one expires but occasionally it takes longer.
Yep, pretty typical. The B.S. is going up like everything else. We must feed the billionaires or else.

Being a Ohio State fan and using YTTV I don't like the sound of this. Does it mean if there is no agreement, I can't use my YTTV login to access Fox Sports to watch the game?
Just when I think I get a handle on this streaming stuff, they pull the rug out from under me.

Probably not. But the game will be on local TV. Should be able to get it with an antenna.

Just get an antenna, if you're within 30-50 miles of your local FOX station.

Also, 2,097 days...

Could we flag parody content as such, please? Some of us aren't familiar with many of the content sources on the Internet and dont know which ones are spoofs. Or maybe post them in Grin and Bare It with the other jokes.

Just a suggestion. Thanks either way.

I would if I could. We are currently in a small fishing village in Oregon 100 miles away from the nearest Fox tower. I had this issue before so I bought Starlink and use YTTV specifically to access streaming of sports. Now that might not work as well! :(

It's entertainment, not food, water, electricity, or shelter. Every discretionary dollar they get is one consumers have chosen to give them for non-essential services. People can stop anytime they want.

Viacom is infamous for doing this stuff lol. I remember when I was a kid and they got into it with DirecTV (which I had) and all the back and forth ads they put out against each other. :lol2:

All and none since football starts next weekend.
Shows how much attention I pay to it. I thought the NFL had a weekend of pre-season left, and that colleges were playing their 'sacrificial lamb' games. Great, now I have another week of scrolling through several inches of pre-season hype links in my local paper's app.

I don't follow college so that could be going on this weekend.

This is more about the director than the announcers themselves. The USA/NBC crew went out of their way to show and talk about the big pyro show at WWT. I remember last year when Fox had the race both Bowyer and Harvick talked about it. But they didn't show it except in a replay after the race started. Another example of how Fox has been mailing it in the last few years.

There must've been a demand to say World Wide Technology Raceway as many times as possible too as Leigh Diffey said it so much it was laughable. There was one time I heard him say Gateway and it was a relief to hear it.

Well world wide technology paid good money to have their name said instead of gateway. Sponsor's aren't donating the money and expect a return for it.

Daytona 500 driver intros.

FOX describes the scene, talks about the excitement of it and pre-race, but doesn’t show driver intros because their own taped very bad slapstick driver intros instead.

They don’t care. NASCAR is content between football and baseball, and the other nine races they have and the Trucks and ARCA are just filler for cable.

I've often wondered if crews have wagers or games based on screw-ups. For example, calling a Truck a 'car' costs you $5 in a season-long pot; guy who makes the fewest mistakes wins all.

I obviously don't know what motivates network programming. That's why I wonder why this weekend's Cup race is on USA while the IMSA 6-hour race is on Peacock and with the last 3 hours also on NBC.

NASCAR, along with Fox and NBC, wants to keep cable TV alive.

Fox reversed course and launched a streaming service a few weeks ago. From what I read a while back, when it was first announced, it was actually in the IndyCar contract to have all the races on a streaming platform by 2026.

NASCAR needs to force NBC to put ALL their races on Peacock. NASCAR on USA Sports will soon be the only major sports property in the country not available via antenna and/or streaming.

The price increases are on my nerves. Now we're seeing the streaming companies saying the next round of price hikes will probably be massive.
It's the same business model as the cable and satellite companies, and the cable premium channels. It's still content provision, just over a different medium. I don't know why anyone would have expected streaming services to behave differently in the long run.
