so what is going to be the new points system?

stage point are great.but you dont have to stop the dam race and waste 10ish laps to give them out
Well, I haven't explained it this year..The reason they have a time out is to show commercials. Fans complained, rightfully so that they were covering up the racing with full screen commercial after commercials missing important minutes of the racing.

Oh and I don't care if you people laugh at my post above. I love this sport more than most of you people ever will. You people have hurt it and you people are who I will hold responsible.
The air is thin way up there on that high horse. Come down and breathe some oxygen before talking about "you people" damaging your sandbox.

First blush opinions before I have time to dig deeper are

-Hallelujah win and you’re in is gone. We all knew the 30th place car in points wasn’t a championship contender just because they won at Daytona. That was just non sense.

-16 seems to be a bit many invited to the party. Will be interesting to see that play out. 16th place is like 2 whole races behind at initial seeding

- Good to see the points champion of the regular season is rewarded with bonus points to start The Chase. They deserve it because of their performance at that point of the season.

- I still loathe the points reset with 3/4 of the season done but there’s only one reset instead of the what did we have 4 over the final 10 races?

- I hope the 10 tracks will get serious consideration for constant shuffling, refreshing, moving around and moving out of the chase. If they stay stagnant we could get what we got from 2006-2010 and that’s why this failed in the first place imo.

If you can get there from 16th, more power to you.
Now they just need to bring back point bonuses for leading a lap/leading the most laps.
Eh, I always had one grip with a point for leading laps, and that's awarding the point for a lap lead under yellow. I don't care if it comes back but if it does, make it only for laps led under green.

Good change IMO. I'd have loved to see them go back to a pre-Chase style full season championship, but the Chase is a fine compromise. No more eliminations, multiple points resets, or Phoenix/Homestead Bowls at the end of the season? I'll take that all day.

The Chase Era footage made me feel nostalgic. That mid-2000s - mid-2010s timeframe was, admittedly perhaps by coincidence, my favorite time following NASCAR. I walked away not too long after the winner take all gimmick became a thing. I don't view the drivers' championships during that time as any less valid than any others, but that format was absolutely not for me.

Dunno if I'll be signing back up for a TV service just because of this, but it definitely makes me want to start paying attention to it again. I'll at least peek at more results and highlights now.

I agree, but their re-seeded points value will be so low they may as well not be there anyway. They’ll have to overcome just about a full 2-race deficit within 10 races to catch the top seed.

All things considered, this seems like a relatively healthy compromise. I look forward to seeing how it plays out.

Yeah. Directionally it's a big improvement on everything done since 2014. Addition by subtraction: a good portion of the nonsense is gone. Unfortunately a fair amount remains.

It is difficult to give NASCAR leadership that much credit for partially getting out of their own way. They were facing enormous deserved backlash from their customers, and removed the most odious aspects of an illegitimate system while still clinging to the illusion that regular- and post-season divisions of an auto racing season make any sense or produce any tangible benefit.

They are maintaining a structure in which the fifteenth best team of the season is viewed as a winner from September on for making the cut, but the seventeenth best team is summarily a loser that has disappointed its sponsors. Despite the fact that both will continue to compete in all of the same events. An utterly pointless distinction without a difference. Nobody but a few obsessive cutline points counters in the media ever cared.

There are fewer arbitrary points resets now, and that's good. But the correct number is zero. If Larson leads Hamlin by two points at the top of the standings after 26 races, there is no reason for that to magically become 25. If Bell is 60 points behind in third, there is no reason for most of the gap to disappear. It's a competition caution thrown over a season of work.

I am trying to stay positive and christian about it all, in spite of being served more of the same old relabeled shiet.
Hoping they all burn in hell would just be mean spirited and to eternally bitter (even if they deserve it).

Henceforth, In the spirit of kindness I will try to only celebrate any of their deserved self inflicted sufferings for only a brief teaching moment. While ultimately hoping that all the eternal things in life eventually work for their greater good. Life is just too short and we need to be happy.

So I only hope the France family is afflicted with a great case of severe hemorrhoids that shall afflict them for the rest of their lives. The pain burning, itching and embarrassment should be great, but I wouldn't wish it upon them for an eternity.

May simple things like every type of food taste bad to them, and every journey be up a steep hill from this point going forward, for all the days of their natural lives.

May they be filled with horror as they watch the buzzards eating out their rotten imnards just before being given one merciful last drop of water.

Hopefully we can shake hands and be friends in the next life, and so shall it ever be.

Pretty sure the pain needs to be spread to every greedy media head also. A sorrier bunch doesn't exist.

Its better than nothing but they need to get rid of stage points and only score playoff drivers against themselves.

Why does it matter if someone ran good or bad all race? At the end of the day, its the end of the day that matters.

How can you justify a non-playoff driver taking points from a playoff driver and still consider it legitimate?

Easy. It's the playoffs...gimmicks R us.
Let's not forget heaven forbid if somebody wins that isn't in their playoffs. Will the gerbils even interview the winner.

O'Reilly - 12 drivers, 9 races
Trucks - 10 drivers, 7 races.
I’m not gonna do the math but I would assume Zilisch would’ve won last year’s title rather comfortably - maybe even clinched prior to the finale - with this methodology in place, and that’s a good outcome.

I'll take it, better than what we had , and no more win and your in is good, and calling it the Playoffs is even better. Wish they cut it back to only the top 10 but I think there are reason why they had to keep it at 16. I wanted full season, but I think I can live with the Chase being back.

why are you here then? I bet you watch every damn race lol
i hang out in the podium. i love nascar history and what the sport was, id love to watch it again, but i'm not interested it in when there is a playoff system.

i may watch a race a year, usually the 500, but thats about it.

Someone will end up doing it for us. But yeah would believe so lol.

3 wins
7 top 5s
8 top 10s

Talladega being the lone race outside top 10 with a 23rd.

stick with the Podium, you give bad info there to.

No matter how bad playoffs are for Cup racing, they are infinitely worse for those series.
NASCAR doesn't dare use a post-season format for Cup but total points for the lower series. Fans would justifiably scream about what's good for the goose not being good for the gander.
