Sonny Jurgensen, my favorite quarterback of all time has passed away. Vince Lombardi said that Sonny Jurgensen was the best passer that he has ever seen. It was a joy to see him throw the football, his quick release and accuracy was something to behold. I seen Jurgensen play many times in Washington, DC. I also one time seen Sonny Jurgensen, Johnny Unitas, and Billy Kilmer, together in Gaithersburg, MD., at the old Washingtonian Motel with its favorite watering hole) having a few drinks May he R.I.P.

Career Achievements
  • NFL Passing Yards Leader: 5× (1961, 1962, 1966, 1967, 1969)
  • Passing TD Leader: 2× (1961, 1967)
  • Pro Bowls: 5 selections
  • Total Career Stats:
    • 32,224 passing yards
    • 255 touchdown passes

He was truly one of the greats. Maybe too long ago for many here to have ever seen; thanks for the memories and my utmost respect.

RIP.

The Kilmer & Jurgensen years are the ones I remember. Mostly with Sonny coming off the bench in the fourth quarter like a hot relief pitcher. He was great.

Jurgensen was one of a kind.

RIP.

When the team had to change it's name the last time, I bet there are a lot of people who would like to have seen it changed to the "Washington Jergensens".

I remember when Mike Shanahan first came to Washington to coach the team, he said he was so excited the first day he got here he called his dad to tell him he had just gotten to meet Sonny Jergensen.
