I literally called the France family’s hold on NASCAR totalitarian in another thread.
NASCAR has a ****** up governance structure and is way too secretive. Of all of their problems, the championship format ranks pretty low on the list.
How is it bogus? It’s a fixed set of rules that everyone agrees to when they begin the season. A championship is legitimate when it follows a consistent and agreed upon set of rules.
You’re free to not like it but questioning its legitimacy is just silly.
A key part of being a champion in any discipline is performing when it counts. If you and your team **** up, you don’t get to blame the “lottery” or a “gimmick” or whatever the latest buzzword may be.
I guess I don’t subscribe to the dirt worship ideology. If you want to see the best drivers, look at the top of the disciplines, regardless of whether it’s dirt or asphalt, oval or road course.
Some people prefer to focus on one discipline. Dale Earnhardt never raced a sprint car but you’d be a fool not to consider him one of the best racers of all time.
What exactly is it that you want? If you go back to the full season system using the Latford points, Reddick is 2nd in points and very close to the points lead.
There’s a Twitter account that tracks these things.
Big Bill had some point systems that makes the playoffs look straight forward. He also presided over an active union busting effort.
He built the weird as **** governing structure where one family has a totalitarian hold on a major sporting body.
I would throw David Stremme in that same pile. I wouldn’t even count his time at Penske
as a second chance because Brad also ran like dog dung in that #12.
Stremme looked damn good as a Busch Series rookie in the Finch car.
