NASCAR 2024 - BOLD Prediction Thread - The VOTE

I'm fine with whatever the voters want. I added some additional riders to my prediction that didn't come true, so I can't sit here and pretend I did an authentic Amazing Kreskin act. Ultimately if I participate again for 2025, the prediction I'll make will almost certainly be about NASCAR's...

NASCAR 2024 - BOLD Prediction Thread - The VOTE

Well, there are indeed reasons for that. Clearly it is easier to make predictions about NASCAR futzing around with something it probably shouldn't have had to do in the first place (or isn't a thing that needs anything be done about it) than it is about driver's success/failure.

    The Announcers Thread

Checks out anecdotally. My current only news source is the Financial Times. If it requires me using Tor to get trustworthy reporting from outside the US, I will do precisely that.

    High Limit 2024

Twas there (and had done the Detroit GP hours earlier). Great show. I ought to go to that track more often.

NYT: Joe Gibbs Racing to lift dirt racing restrictions for its NASCAR drivers

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5924883/2024/11/18/joe-gibbs-racing-nascar-drivers-dirt-restrictions It appears that Ty Gibbs is the individual responsible for this. Look at me thanking Ty Gibbs for being himself; who could have predicted such things?

If Kyle Larson is the greatest driver in the world

Lol don't they reset the points repeatedly in the playoffs? I mean, that's the entire point of the post season - to keep things artificially close. No one can be a dominant champion in NASCAR anymore so there's no point in comparing using titles or whatever. Average finish and wins are the best...

If we have to have a playoff system....

I more fully fleshed out my ideas on Reddit with my burner and it was immediately deleted by the mods at r/NASCAR. Well, here it goes: This is as serious a proposal as anyone can provide online who isn't involved in the series can do, which really makes it about as valuable for input as...

    Cup Championship thread --- Phoenix

Yup, and it is for that reason they should expand what they're doing. NASCAR is getting a lot of attention and clearly they, along with the rest of the media, is poorly constructed for understanding what might be good or bad attention. I recommended expanding the playoff field and the final 4 to...

Is there an all-star open wheel race?

F1 drivers rarely, if ever, compete in anything outside F1 unless they're between contracts. The closest thing to exist like this is the Chili Bowl. Let's be real.

If we have to have a playoff system....

I think it would be great if someone like Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the title because WOW CAN YOU BELIEVE IT I NEVER WOW LOTS OF YELLING IN THE BOOTH. Devalue the title? Well, just go online and tell people that he would have won it anyways in a different format or "Who could really know how it...

If we have to have a playoff system....

They can have whatever they want. Seems like plenty of people like amount of discussion this generates and so I guess if anything, make it more Playoff-y and random. Have 5 finalists and run the race at Daytona; 20 make the initial cut. Why not? Everyone else expanded their playoffs and I think...

This was the last nail in the Playoffs!!

For anyone who might miss when college football was the sport everyone complained about having a jacked up end of season in the pre-BCS days, NASCAR is here for you today.

Will we have a female Senna?

Could that happen? Sure. Will it before motorsports ceases to be relevant? I dunno. Seems possible given that women are approximately half the population globally.

If Kyle Larson is the greatest driver in the world

Again: I was told that we were supposed to be mad about/dislike/need to get away from points racing. So this guy doesn't points race and apparently that's a bad thing in a system that allegedly is supposed to favor and incentivize such behavior. What are we even doing here any more if the issue...

If Kyle Larson is the greatest driver in the world

It's almost as if winning a title in the current era is disproportionately affected by singular events outside the driver's control due to the title being decided at a finale where the series has obviously applied pressure to request non-contending cars stay back and out of the way.

If Kyle Larson is the greatest driver in the world

I was told people didn't like "points racing" and wanted to do away with it through whatever means possible.

If Kyle Larson is the greatest driver in the world

If Larson doesn't make the Final 4, it changes nothing in my eyes about him as a competitor and makes it more likely he races dirt sooner. Reddick seems like a nice guy and all but he's been isolated to racing stock cars alone for years and that doesn't get you credited in the fashion of someone...

Enough Is Enough Full Season Championship.

I'm fine with Logano winning the title this year because it would be like every other year he wins the title and isn't remotely the best car on track. That said, I also intentionally don't watch the finale anymore (in large part because of this) and mostly cheer for it because it provides train...
