Time for NASCAR to revisit top 30 rule

It was a horrendous race from start to finish. RTJ still managed a high finish because there was something like 5-6 cars left running at the end thanks to the track being an unmitigated disaster. The Giants beating the undefeated Patriots is a story in part because the Giants managed to overcome...

Time for NASCAR to revisit top 30 rule

I remember watching that mess of a final race and deciding that dirt late models, at least in that series, wasn't for me either. When I watch, I watch entirely and solely to see RTJ now. You may see how the impact of the finale could have affected my viewing habits. Maybe next year when I pay...

Time for NASCAR to revisit top 30 rule

Kurt Busch won the title in an era with no playoffs. So did Greg Biffle. Might as well reference Mike Skinner as to what it means to be truck champion now. Hocevar never won a truck championship. What would that have done for him that being a top tier national late model driver as a teenager...

Time for NASCAR to revisit top 30 rule

From an opinion or "objective" standpoint I would ask whether or not it matters who wins the Truck Series championship in the present day. What could it change for a guy like Ty Majeski? Nothing, best I can tell.

    2025 schedule news/rumors

The smoke from the "Cup to Mexico City" rumor that emerged a few weeks ago only getting thicker. https://www.autosport.com/nascar-cup/news/nascar-set-to-announce-cup-race-in-mexico-city-for-2025/10648134/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-ALL&utm_term=News&utm_content=uk

Time for NASCAR to revisit top 30 rule

5 of the races that year were also won by Kyle Busch; I suppose my point with that is winning as a Cinderella in the equivalent of the NIT or CBI is "nice" but not anything anyone really cares about since you're already coming at it from a perspective of "who is the 73rd best stock car driver...

Time for NASCAR to revisit top 30 rule

I'm not interested in arguing if it should or shouldn't be like that, simply asking whether or not it is like that. The strongest reason to discontinue doing it is if the fans perceive that making the playoffs is really a pretty meaningless exercise and it doesn't change their viewing habits or...

Time for NASCAR to revisit top 30 rule

Have the NASCAR playoffs produced a single team/driver combo that actually managed to win the title as a Cinderella? Closest I can think of is the year Newman made it to the final race without a single win right after NASCAR instituted a series of rules changes intended to make wins matter more...

    Truck RACE thread --- Milwaukee

At this point, I would be shocked if the Rockingham event for next year didn't happen. There's way too much smoke and state funding emitting from that to ignore. They lost their 2025 date in large part because Indycar has taken the date from them. I get that too. Also probably hurt their ticket...

    Truck RACE thread --- Milwaukee

That fact didn't stop the Truck Series' ownership from booking a race with another series they own at Milwaukee only to sell 15 tickets. Hopefully NASCAR learns something from this about how to promote standalone events outside the Cup series.

    2025 schedule news/rumors

I have attended many IMSA events. I don't recall there being anyone beyond the Pilot Challenge race being part of Long Beach weekend as a Saturday support series, which could easily be accommodated.

    2025 schedule news/rumors

Could replace it with a new event, particularly given that NASCAR would have the venue and owns IMSA. I'm not worried about Indycar finding a support series, they'll be fine.

    2025 schedule news/rumors

San Diego would be a great place to have an early or late season race. Seems like a perfect market for NASCAR these days too. I'd love to see them pair it with IMSA.

    Bonehead of the week: Michigan

100% of the population who watched the 1910 World Series is dead. That does not mean that the 1910 World Series killed those people. Similarly, each point can put a team into the playoffs....or a win can. If wins are disproportionately distributed among playoff contenders at the close of the...

    Bonehead of the week: Michigan

But like, how did they affect that? There is a quantitative value to these points that could be determined as how they affect the title hunt vs. literally any other factor such as simple finishing position. If the end result isn't really affected, then the points don't matter all that much. If...

    Bonehead of the week: Michigan

The Hail Melon didn't crown a champion though, and it happening still doesn't establish that there was any value to "playoff points" or "stage points" necessarily. I mean, isn't the reason the "points matter" because Ross Chastain literally passed Hamlin doing that at Martinsville? As in if he...

    Bonehead of the week: Michigan

I don't feel like litigating the playoffs because people's minds are made up. My perception is that most of these stage points and such don't even matter in the grand scheme of who winds up winning the title. I'd love to hear how I'm wrong, but I sincerely doubt they have played a more vital...

Will Power is also going to be looking at being 45 then. I don't know that he's planning to be in the car for another 4-5 years.

    Bonehead of the week: Michigan

Could they come in handy? Sure. Will they? We both know that you're likely to get into the final 4 by winning races down the stretch and that practically everyone is going to lean back and let the final 4 race amongst themselves at Phoenix for the title. I would have to think hard about this if...

    Bonehead of the week: Michigan

That's what he and his team are racing for. Is there a financial incentive to winning the "regular season championship"? If not, it isn't a prize worth caring about from their perspective.
