I don't like street courses and this race was a fiasco. They have a lot to figure out if they run it again. Herta was the class of the field until he pushed too hard. I'm trying to figure out how a car that should have been wrecked won the race.
The rule book is written by team innovations. F1 teams also have the spirit of Smokey Yunick (and a bigger budget). I recall reading when they stopped refueling during the race, a team created a freezer around the fuel cell to pack more fuel in to keep the power up. I'm guessing F1 has to...
I remember new model release dates, it was a big deal for car people in Sept. I also remember when you could order a car with the options you wanted, these days it is option package A or B.
The Minnesota Street Rod Association puts on the Back to the Fifties car show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, it is one of the largest car shows (they got 10,000 cars this year). I take a bunch of pictures and thought I'd share a few.
It was pretty cool to see Bill and Chase racing for the lead. I recall Bobby & Davey Allison and Mario & Michael Andretti racing for wins (the fathers won both those races, the sons finished 2nd). I enjoyed the SRX races I've seen. I hope the series returns.
Chastain helping a teammate is no different than Penske and JGR teammates manipulating restarts on single groove tracks or other teams running together on super speedways.
I haven't caught all the races but those I have watched have been fun. I get the impression that the drivers have a bet - last driver to wreck PT has to pick up the bar tab.
I didn't know what SRX was so I thought I'd check it out. It looked like a fun race. I initially thought it was a seniors race until I realized a couple young drivers were in the field. Plus there were drivers from a variety of race series trying something new for them (except Tony). I...
I noticed Bowyer made a suggestion to use the Titans on the straight. I don't know if they were listening but they did that shortly after that. It was a new type of situation but NASCAR showed they can adjust to the situation.
While I find cheating stories from yesteryear entertaining (I do get a kick out of them), I'm glad NASCAR keeps up with finding innovations. When I hear a car is moved to the back of the field after tech I realize it is still going on and now I see stretching the rules differently from the past...
Andy shared some of his innovations . I got a kick out of one - convincing the driver he has an advantage. He told a story about how he came up with an innovation when he closed the trunk of his car. He was closing the trunk on his Oldsmobile when he noticed something, the car had a feature...
