    Cup RACE thread --- Loudon

Um...I didn't copy and paste someone else's content. Should I take that as a compliment though? I don't know why, but I do that all the time with Almirola's name. I fixed several misspellings as I was typing that but I guess I still missed one!

    Cup RACE thread --- Loudon

Here are some Monday morning thoughts and stats for you: This race took me back to the early 2000s in more than one way. There is the obvious similarity between the way this race began and The Winston in 2001, which several people have already noted. In addition, it has been quite some time...

    Cup RACE thread --- Loudon

I wouldn't count him out so fast. Aric Almirola is one of the streakiest drivers in Cup today. Don't forget last year, when all but one of his 6 top 5s were consecutive. This well-timed win could give him the confidence boost he needs to have a playoff run like he did in 2018.

That was in 2001, plus that was on lap 1 of an exhibition race, so it made more sense.

    2022 Silly Season

"Kurt Busch top candidate for 23XI Racing as long as team gets charter and expands; Chastain leading candidate for Trackhouse opening. Nothing finalized. Everyone else is more TBD waiting how charter situations/sponsorships work out." - from Bob Pockrass on Twitter

    2022 Silly Season

In just 6 Cup starts, Cindric has LED a few laps in half of them (Daytona and two road courses). He also qualified in the top 5 in both of those road course races. His finishes aren't overly impressive, but he's shown enough potential so far that I seriously doubt he'll be a bust. The added road...

    2022 Silly Season

5 years with Roush (2001-2005) 6 years with Penske (2006-2011) 1 year with Finch (2012) 1 year with Furniture Row (2013) 5 years with SHR (2014-2018) 3 years with Ganassi (2019-2021) Kurt's win totals have been remarkably consistent. He failed to win in his rookie season (though he nearly won...

    2022 Silly Season

A quote from DiBenedetto's Twitter video (quote posted by Dustin Albino): DiBenedetto says he found out yesterday that he wouldn't be returning to the 21 next year. Also added he's very thankful for the opportunity, but the 21 team "has been broken for a while... wasn't clicking."

    2022 Silly Season

I hate that for DiBenedetto, but at the same time, it is neat to see a Virginia driver from a family with a lot of racing history pair up with a longtime Virginia team. I would think he'd be a popular pick to get the Wood Brothers' 100th win if DiBenedetto isn't able to do it. Unfortunately, I...

    Cup RACE thread --- Atlanta

Thanks, I appreciate that! One more reason I neglected to include in my last reply is simply that my interest in NASCAR continues to fade, although that's been going on for quite some time. I love to re-watch races from the late '90s and early '00s, while I rarely watch present-day races...

    Cup RACE thread --- Atlanta

Ha. I feel like I haven't quite found my place after the Racing-Reference comments shut down, but I'm still around. Plus, every race is different. Sometimes stats just jump out at me, while other times, there isn't much that's interesting about the finishing order.

Ganassi leaving NASCAR, selling team to Trackhouse

It is fitting that Justin Marks' lone NASCAR win (among the top 3 series, at least) came while driving for Chip Ganassi. Now, nearly 5 years later, he will be taking over ownership of the whole organization. Daniel Suarez has been impressive this year, far exceeding expectations, and hopefully...

Whose Season Would You Rather Have? (Hamlin vs. Bowman)

Based on the votes so far, it does seem that winning is preferred, even if the overall season isn't as strong. I do wonder, though, whether or not fans would have had the same perspective prior to NASCAR's implementation of the playoff system.

Cup RACE thread --- Pocono, No. 2

From races 5 through 8 this season, Bubba Wallace finished 16th 3 out of 4 times but couldn't quite get the first top 15 for new team 23XI Racing. He nearly got his team's first top 10 at Dover, but had to settle for 11th. Then from races 15 through 18, he finished 14th 3 out of 4 times...

Whose Season Would You Rather Have? (Hamlin vs. Bowman)

Would you rather have the consistency and strength of Hamlin while being winless, or the 3 wins that Bowman has gotten in spite of not leading a whole lot?

Cup "rainy" RACE thread --- COTA

Some random stats after COTA: - Chase Elliott is the 11th different winner in 14 races this season. Point leader Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick are among those who still have yet to win this year. - Ross Chastain (4th) scored his career best finish. His previous best was 7th in this year's...

Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

I completely agree with your perspective there. The federal government needs to be focused on the debt instead. But since they have already given the money to the states with certain stipulations, it seems to me (as a longtime fan of Rockingham and North Wilkesboro) that this is a good way to...

Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

This would come out of the money the state is being given through the American Rescue Plan, and the state legislature would still have to approve it. If it all works out, it could be the best news that Rockingham or North Wilkesboro has had in a very long time. More details...

    2022 Silly Season

I don't see Almirola going anywhere. He has solid sponsorship and is normally very consistent, and I see him as a good veteran driver to lead the organization whenever Harvick retires. Everybody has an off year sometimes, and SHR as a whole is struggling a lot this year. They'd be better off to...

    2022 Silly Season

They both started racing full-time in 2002. Harvick and Kurt Busch were rookies in 2001.
