I agree. Look at a series like Global RallyCross, where they race Tuner cars that the younger folks like. The racing is great, short, and they get a turnout of about 10,000 fans at most.
There are a lot of sponsors that want to jump in. The problem is the the price to sponsor is too high. Eventually capitalism will take over and it will work itself out.

Your point about how the older folks are pretty much fixed in their drink preferences is well taken. With NASCAR fans getting older on average, the sport just isn't as appealing to advertisers who crave those under 25 year old eyeballs.
I think it will drop 10% as those older viewers pass away and are not replaced. However, it doesn't matter. The next TV contract will still be huge unless the ratings tumble into the 1.0 to 1.8 range.
And I can understand how that would appeal to many. Still not for me. On Sunday, I'll tune it, watch the rain delay the start of the race, take a nap as they all go single file for 150 laps, then watch the end.
I don't like plate racing because I think it takes less skill to win a race with a restrictor plate. I like racing where skill matter more than luck. Daytona in particular has a long list of low skill drivers that won there and did nothing else.
