    segment line-up

Did they ever say definitively if there was going to be a new flag? I'd feel a tiny bit better about this if it wasn't going to bastardize the record book with periodic caution flags...

NASCAR fans offended by Monster Girls

I understand. I meant hypocrisy on the part of the fans (if they are actually fans).

NASCAR fans offended by Monster Girls

Great point. Hypocrisy in a sport famous for activities with bead necklaces in a certain Alabama infield.

The Clash at Daytona-- RACE THREAD

Yeah. This reminds me of late 90s plate racing where passing the leader was almost impossible.

The Clash at Daytona-- RACE THREAD

Daytona 500 day used to be my favorite day of the year. I'd have trouble sleeping the night before when I was a kid from excitement. Even with everything I dislike about NASCAR today, I'd still choose it over SB.

The Clash at Daytona-- RACE THREAD

48 causes more plate wrecks than anyone else. So odd for one of the best.

The Clash at Daytona-- RACE THREAD

In the daytime with the stands empty, this feels a bit like a glorified practice session lol

Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona Race Thread

I'm always surprised how few people can come back on a Sunday.

Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona Race Thread

This is really bad for NASCAR right now. So many fans are on the cusp of quitting due to Brian's idiocy. I'm watching the NHL instead right now, and not missing the race all that much...

    Biffle Says Goodbye To Roush

I wouldn't call that revisionist, I would call it the point I was making :D

    Good NASCAR books

Three of my favorites: "Full Throttle: The Life and Fast Times of Curtis Turner" was good. Provides good information on NASCAR in the late 50s and early 60s and also iron fist with which Bill France ruled it. "Driving with the Devil." Great and entertaining book on the moonshiners who made...

    Biffle Says Goodbye To Roush

I remember his rivalry with Harvick. After one wreck (I think at Bristol), Biffle predicted that Harvick would never win another race. Of course, Harvick has gone on to win a lot of races and a title while Biffle's career has tanked.

    BK on Daytona lodging prices

Another comment: the free market works. If you don't like the high prices, stay further away. When I go to Daytona, I stay in St Augustine. When I go to Talladega, I stay in Atlanta. Hotels don't have you over a barrel if you are willing to drive a bit.

    BK on Daytona lodging prices

I don't doubt the insane jacking up of hotel prices has hurt attendance the past few years. What could be done about it I dont know. Supply and demand etc.

NASCAR announces stages for all three series

I think they messed up the Texas laps. Atlanta is a longer track and runs fewer laps, but Texas is the same length as Charlotte and should have the same segment lengths.

    2017 - Daytona 500 - Pre Race Thread

Peak hotel price means the highest price being charged for any room? Wouldn't average hotel price be more informative? Not sure who put this fact out, but seems severely misleading. If this is the average, I would suspect it is because Daytona is a far smaller city than the city that hosted...

Going to Daytona 500, advice please

To get in the mood, I'd recommend a meal at Racing's North Turn. The restaurant sits, appropriately enough, on the north turn of the old beach-and-road course and has lots of racing memorabilia.

What exactly was better about NASCAR back in the day, and why was that way better?

There is an easy, consistent path that extends in NASCAR from 1975 (first year of 'modern' points system) to 2003 (before Brian France took the reigns of power). A consistent points system. No/few fake cautions. Races on uniquely configured tracks. Sure, 80s and 90s might have been the "glory...

What exactly was better about NASCAR back in the day, and why was that way better?

Few here are waxing nostalgic for "forty years ago." It's an exact point in time 14 years ago before Brian France took over and has done his best to destroy the sport. Sure, there were a few complaints then--North Wilkesboro comes to mind--but I guarantee you that the vast majority here would be...

What exactly was better about NASCAR back in the day, and why was that way better?

I don't understand all the hate Ken Squier gets. Squier was a throwback to an earlier era of broadcasting where commentators tried to have unique takes rather than be as milquetoast as possible. Squier belongs with guys like Brent Musberger, Keith Jackson, and Harry Caray as being very...
