I think if you look at Joey Logano and the 20 car you'd see the answer to this question. Quite simply, there isn't one. Joey didn't set the world on fire in the 20 but is a perineal title contender in the 22. The 20 team also became an instant contender after he left.

The difference is that Busch has acted like he does his entire career, whereas this is the 2nd or 3rd time Larson has had negative publicity. That's a big difference.
