    NHL 2017-2018

I liked watching the Leaf-B's tilt last night and although it is highly likely the B's will win the series it was good to see the Leafs bounce back. Freddie Andersen stood on his head and stopped over 40 shots and now it is back to TO for game 6. Go Leafs Go!

The crowd looked thin based on the overhead shots shown however that alone can't be used as a basis for determining attendance. Hopefully the ratings will be respectable.

Looking over the past couple of years Richmond pulled in a 3.2 and 5.5 million viewers in 2016 and 2.7 and circa 4.8 million viewers for last year's race. Ten years ago the race had a 4.2 and 7.3 million viewers so while things are trending downward it is not as severe as some other races.

    Underperforming & Heroic Drivers

None of the drivers today seem in the least bit heroic to me which is not to say I see them in a bad light. I do think guys like James Hylton, JD McDuffie, Jimmy Means, Dick Brooks, Cecil Gordon and Buddy Arrington were drivers that made me appreciate the dedication it takes to suit up and race...

I agree as the NHL generally flies under the radar yet has 31 teams with each playing 82 regular season games. Average yearly attendance for the regular season league wide is over 22 million and the NHL enjoys very good corporate support. The last team admitted to the league was the Vegas Golden...

    5 Most "Psyched-Out" Drivers

Nothing wrong with speculating about a whimsical topic but there are so many things at work. Was Jeremy Mayfield's career hurt because Ray was playing house with Betty Crocker? Did Bill Elliott toss away championships in 1985 and 1992 or was he just a victim of circumstances beyond his control...

All things considered I think 3.9 million is a good number for 2018. I looked back at some of the other viewership numbers and noticed that the race had 7.9 million viewers in 2014. The race began on FOX and was stopped at 124 laps due to weather and resumed on FS1.

Someone will not be happy with the NHL and NBA ratings but I am happy for both leagues. Major kudos to the VGK!

With those valuable charters and 85% of sponsorship in place for the 17 team John and Jack could be sitting on a gold mine.

I found the breakdown in age groups interesting and I will leave it to others to determine what if anything it means. I will go out on a limb and say that I think cable companies would like Nascar fans as I sense they pay their bill on time. That is it.

I'm not sure what the member was up to but I saw the deathbed angle of a once proud championship winning organization that could not maintain 4 cars and then 3 and now is down to 2 cars.

It took me a minute to catch on but I see where you are going with the deathbed stuff. Roush used to have so many sponsors it had to race 5 cars but now can only scrounge enough together for 2 cars that are not regular threats to win. Ouch!

What stinks is that so many people did not get to see a great race yesterday either from home or in person. I thought the ratings for the race were very good as even though it was delayed it beat several non delayed events last year. As far as attendance goes it looks like the students said...

What stands out to me isn't so much the number of viewers but the where they slot in demographically. 26% of the Nascar viewers were between 18-49 and 41% of NHL viewers were in the same age group and the NBA kicked demographic ass with almost half the viewers in that age span. While Nascar...

What surprises me is that Bristol did a 1.5 overnight with a next day delay but Texas did a 1.7 and I don't think there were any delays but I only saw a small amount of that race. We saw 1 or 2 uninterrupted races fall below the 2 million viewership mark last year but the floodgates could open...
