Several of that era used to drive their passenger cars ,leading up to some events, with the heat on and windows up for hours at a time to acclimate themselves. Read it in a biography about Bobby, I believe, a few years ago.
In the eighties I used to drive over and meet friends every July when the second Talladega race was run. I vividly remember one time being so hot that we gave up on the cooler full of adult beverages and supported the popcicle vendor after just a few laps. Only time in my life I remember it...
That's kind of what I have been thinking for a while too. To me this is just the "official" confirmation of what many have been thinking,that he was just going through the motions the last couple of years. Kind of like he retired and forgot to tell anyone. Best of luck to him.

Some of the details escape me,CRS, but Mike Dillon never set the world on fire as a driver and at some point he quit driving due to safety concerns. Not long after he started dating Tina I believe .

Very knowlegeable,IMO. In the 80's and 90's he did a monthly column in either Circle Track or SCR about building NASCAR model cars ,one of his hobby's, and the articles were fascinating and full of details and technical stuff only someone with extensive knowledge of the cars would know.
Yes ! That ! Years ago the after the "pass in the grass" Winston Allstar Race at Charlotte ,NASCAR PR sent out crushed Levi Garrett tobacco packs and crushed Coors cans to the media as a promotional stunt for the next years event. Didn't go over well if I remember correctly.
