The only improvement I can see is removing the grass median at the end of the backstretch where it necks from 3 lanes wide to hardly a lane wide. Take that grass median away and widen the corner on the inside edge. The right turn from Lake Shore to Roosevelt.

I agree with this. The pit crew and use of the horseshow before the speed limit line is somewhat more important here than track position itself.

I could see this happening. What I see on radar will be at best a 45 minute delay, give or take lightning clearances

Again, this tornadic storm was about 2 hours in duration with multiple tornadoes believed to be dropped on the ground from 10:20 PM local until 12:30 AM almost non-stop.
