At first I wasn’t sure myself, but he tweeted after the race something to the effect that his brakes were used up and he had to nurse it home at the end.

I was in good shape until Bowman lost his brakes. He was running 6th late in the race then I blink my eyes and he’s in the 20’s.

It’s basically been three drivers that have always the last four decades (Bill Elliott, Dale Jr, and Chase Elliott), with the exception of Dale Sr. winning it posthumously in 2001 and DW winning it a couple times when he drove for HMS. Its the most anticlimactic award in the sport.

It won’t count toward the season race rankings, but the average for the All-Star Race was 5.72.
