Just a few years ago it was a question of when, not if Cup comes to Portland to have a race in the PNW market. Now that fans have turned on road course racing there's no mention of that anymore unfortunately.

I initially thought of that question with Thompson in mind but when looking up whether the 25 years between his first start in 1992 and his second career start in 2017 were indeed a record I was amazed to find out Thompson only ranks 2nd in that statistic.

Good guess but he was a fairly regular competitor in the superspeedway races from the 60s until the early 90s. His longest break between two starts was roughly 2.5 years between the 1992 Daytona 500 and his last ever Cup start in the inaugural Brickyard 400.

What I find most confusing is practice/qualifying being covered by completely different companies than the race. 6 different channels for Cup (including Fox and NBC's cable channels) also has 90s vibes but at least the broadcaster doesn't change every week.

Fourth championship already for Palou, the sky is the limit to what this guy will do in American open-wheel racing. Unless he goes to F1 where he should be, that is. He completely deserves to win with two to go and there's nothing wrong about that.
