You are right boB, Tony did enter a midget race as "Smoke Johnson" but he had already earned the nickname "Smoke" prior to ever racing in Nascar. In 1995 Tony was the first, and still the only driver to win the Triple Crown, championships in Silver Crown, sprint cars and midgets.

Tony got the nickname Smoke when he first started racing. He used to blow a lot of motors becuase of the way he drove, creating a lot of Smoke.
