Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. My point was that in NASCAR, a team with insufficient sponsor resources wouldn't be competitive. So a driver who missed races because the team couldn't afford to run that weekend wasn't going to walk off with the big trophy anyway.

True but teams that can't put together sponsorship for full season usually aren't able to sign top tier drivers and field competitive cars.
