There are very valid arguments against a playoff in the Cup Series without resorting to the “stick and ball” nonsense. Playoffs in other sports help control for the fact that you can’t play every team during the regular season, which is obviously not the case for Cup.

Golf and tennis are both individual sports that use sticks and balls. 🤷

It’s a shame that some people still use terms like “stick and ball.” Sports are sports. Football and golf have little in common too. Auto racing isn’t some special snowflake.

The in season tournament is kind of like the old No Bull 5. It’s a diversion but one you can easily ignore if it isn’t your thing.

It is racing, you don’t just agree with it. The point system is an arbitrary value assigned to performance in racing. The Latford system was also flawed and some of the systems before it were even wackier than what we have now. If one system is a game show then so are all of them are.

I don’t disagree. My only point is that being a Cup Champion is still the pinnacle of stock car racing. It’s far from a meaningless joke to the guys competing for it.

They certainly can. The margin for error in a full season format is a lot smaller. I prefer the marathon aspect of the full season format.

NASCAR is a circus with a flawed playoff format. But the champion satisfied the criteria better than his competitors. Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney are rightful champions, regardless of what special snowflakes think.

You can think the format sucks without trashing the prestige of the championship. ARCA Brakes is acting like a petulant child.

I still remember when Reddit told me that SVG would be a front runner competing for championships. If you think the championship is a meaningless joke then you have plenty of other options for spending your Sunday afternoons.
