Your thoughts on 21 Car this year??

I think he's definitely proven how unfit Harrison Burton was for that ride. He's been incredibly fast, qualifying better than 16th and finishing better than 21st. Those aren't "playoff" numbers (without a win, which he has), but it's better than a lot of drivers in supposedly better equipment...

PRIME broadcast: now that’s a winner!

80s and 90s means nothing as a comparison. We gotta compare to the available options today, and between fewer commercials and actually knowledgeble commentators, NASCAR needed this

What is your promote, keep, drop line?

Eh...I'd say 65 points is more than adequate compensation. He's gonna get plenty of coverage throughout the season as someone fighting for the overall lead in points.

    Johali's Rate the Cup race --- 600

Coverage was a 10 I didn't feel there were any BS cautions, though one incident that was arguably caution worthy went unflagged (don't remember what it was). 9/10 there I don't like it when a poorly surfaced track just eliminates drivers. "Gotta watch out for those bumps!" Or, ya...

Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Well, when testing tires, you want to see how they'll respond to suboptimal conditions, and the 9 never takes risks. ~grins~

    Hendrick Motorsport News

To me it's more about the 600. It's already an endurance race on a track that requires attention, and then you want to be more tired on top of that? It's just an insane concept.

Average Qual by Team by Week

Good point. I'll see about inverting it next time so it's more intuitive.

Average Qual by Team by Week

To make this a bit less messy, I removed some of the teams from the middle that didn't appear to have any noteworthy observations. Hendrick: Only twice worse than 17, both times at superspeedways (real ones, Atlanta) Gibbs: Only worse than 21 once, at COTA Penske: Qualified under 15 every...

    2026 Silly Season

I'd say it's more than that. Bell already has as many wins as all last year in less than half a season. By him stepping down now, it invites the comparison of pre-departure Bell v post-departure, which could help him in the offseason.

What is your promote, keep, drop line?

You are speaking my language. Obviously different teams have to have different standards. Even for top teams, though, I'd say playoffs is enough. I would keep Bowman at his current level of performance. For Austin Dillon/Ty Gibbs, he's the owner's grandson, not going anywhere...

    2026 Silly Season

Doesn't Trackhouse already have a hook in him? I thought they were booting Suarez for him after this year?

    2026 Silly Season

Plug for my recent "article" on the site. Bowman is finishing, on average, about 7.5 spots behind his three teammates. I'm not sure who Hendrick would bring in to replace him, but there certainly is a gap in ability.

    Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Pre-Race Thread

I already had prime thanks to the NFL experiment, so while I don't like it...meh. That said, the stream quality of the prime NFL games was solid. So at least that's not a concern.

Average Qual and Finish by Team

Okay, finally got all these data points for every points race this year. Above is every team that raced every race, sorted by average finish. I included the part time drivers in the results, but didn't plot them out here. Here are some thoughts on each team as well as any context that seems...

    Nascar Hall of Fame Winners

If you look at the current inductees (not necessarily this class, just all the ones in), I'd argue the very concept of a minimum driving standard is long gone. Perhaps more than any sport, the NASCAR Hall of FAME is accurately named.

Bonehead of the week: All-Star race

He took it seriously enough as a team owner to get caught cheating with the spinout and the illegal fuel.

    Silly Season 2025

I doubt it means anything, to be honest. Daddy might have got him in the seat, but he is driving well enough, and not controversial outside of the connection.

Bonehead of the week: All-Star race

Hate to say it, but I wouldn't consider Larson for tagging the wall in a fast car. He does that a LOT, and usually prefers that kinda high risk setup and driving style. Also, and I admit I already said it on reddit, but Waltrip dropping the flag was brilliant. Before he did it, it was a...
