    Cleetus McFarland

Which 'that' are you doubting, that he aspires to be competitive or that he's checking off his list? Thanks.

Who brings more eyes to NASCAR? Cleetus or MJ?

Didn't Monster try those things? I recall reading about several promo activities early in their tenure. I don't remember exact details since I wasn't going to check them out when I was at the track. People who viewed other events under its sponsorship umbrella were supposed to flock to NASCAR...

I think free O'Reilly and Truck tickets for kids does more to build new fans than any other single factor.

    Cup RACE thread --- Bristol

How long it takes for a driver to get his first win isn't much of an indicator of future success. There have been plenty of one-win wonders. A better indicator is how long it takes to get the fifth (if ever). I'm not directing this at Gibbs, it's a generalization. I think we'll see him win...

Thanks. That's why I'm asking what his goal is. Is he trying to compete, or is that an early assumption I made in error? Maybe he's checking off a bucket list goal, or looking to boost his viewer numbers.

And William Byron was a video gamer. Is making more than a splash his goal?

That depends on how you define 'Pastrana type'. If you mean 'from outside the conventional development path', I'd agree. But Travis ran full-time in the second tier, and that doesn't describe McFarland at this point. If he plans to run O'Reilly or Trucks on a regular basis, I'll watch him as...

What's his goal? Does he want to go full time in a national touring series? If so, what level does he hope to reach? If not, does he plan to run occasionally in different series on an ongoing basis, or is runnng Talladega in a Cup car his final objective? Thanks.

    Oops, fixed that.

You're aware it was called the Busch series in the first place because of AB's almighty dollar, right? That's not tradition, that's sponsorship. I'm with you that keeping 'Grand National' as part of the series name would have been traditional, but I'm with Naitch on that ship having long ago...

I'm often mistaken but didn't he wreck in the first few laps of his Daytona and Talladega starts? That's not likely to convince The Powers That Be. His ARCA performance at Rock was solid but his O'Reilly was much less so. I can't comment on Charlotte or Bristol.

As I said, I think Mike would have been approved if he'd started working toward it earlier than he did. I wouldn't trust Decker in the 25-cent race car in front of the grocery store.

    The saga of Kyle Bush.

Sponsoring him doesn't involve dealing with him directly as an employee. Are you saying you think Rick -would- sign him, assuming there was an open seat?

Who brings more eyes to NASCAR? Cleetus or MJ?

Helio had an I500 and two Rolex 24 wins within the previous three years, both of which are faster cars than Cup. Overall he had more recent experience than Mike. I think if Mike had started trying to get approved earlier than he did, maybe run a few races late in 2024, he would have been...

    The saga of Kyle Bush.

Would anyone else hire Kyle for 2027? Serious answers, please, not pipe dreams of him returning to Gibbs or Hendrick.

NASCAR's approval system is based entirely on track speed. Difficulty apparently has zippo to do with who gets a green light. As noted, Rockingham requires a more extensive skill set than Talladega.
