A massive crash along Interstate 10 near Beaumont has killed one person and injured up to 120 after as many as 100 vehicles collided in extremely dense fog on the morning of Thanksgiving.
Nearly all manner of highway vehicles were involved in the pileup, including a charter bus and several big-rigs, KPRC-TV in Houston reports.
The crash took place in extremely dense fog shortly before 9 a.m. along a two-mile stretch of road between Taylor's Bayou and Hampshire Road, NBC News reported.
Earlier reports suggested that between 50 and 150 vehicles may have been involved in the crash, but those estimates have been updated to 100. Initially dozens of people were also reported injured, now that number has grown to as many as 120 with injuries ranging from minor scrapes to broken bones, NBC News reports.
One person has died from the crash, the Associated Press has reported. The injured are being transported to hospitals in Port Arthur, Beaumont and Baytown.
I-10 was closed in both directions west of Beaumont near Hampshire Road. Shortly after noon, the westbound lanes reopened to traffic. Officials have not said when the eastbound lanes are expected to open.
KPRC is advising drivers to use state highways 124 and 73 in Winnie to avoid traffic
