Hey, what about Pat Summit, first coach to win 1000 games.
Congrats, Pat, even if I'm not a fan of Tenn.

I know I'm going to get the business for this response, but ... big deal. I know, it is a big deal and to put it in perspective, a coach that coaches for 30 years and wins 33 games a year will still be 10 wins short of what she has accomplished, but again, big deal. As for me and much of the country, women's basketball is on a par with soccer. It gets plenty of press, but for the majority of the country, it doesn't have that big of a following. Pat Summit recognized that if she could get the support behind her, she could not only make waves, but could get a leg up on the rest of the country. I'm not trying to make light of her accomplishment, but until the country got a big push in the political correct world, she was on top of the world and had no real competition. When asked if she thought the record would be broken, she said sure, but I don't think so. If you compare his record with any of the very top men's coaches, you will see that when the competition is better, the ability to win gets much harder. I believe that Pat will continue to coach and could very well end up with over 1,300 wins and I don't believe you will ever see a men's coach win 1,000.
Just a question for any of you that might know. What is the normal cost to attend a women's game there at UT compared to a men's game. I know that at Wake Forest, getting a ticket for a men's game is six times the price of a women's game. Also, the women's games are general admission and come at the price of $6.00. Even at Tennessee, the price of a women's ticket is much lower than the men's and, well, who has all the press there?
tkj, you gotta ignore those that don't understand or know much about women's basketball. The competition has been fierce for many, many, years now. the thing I like best about women's BB vs men's is the team play and not so much one-on-one.

btw, there is a high school girl playing in Oak Ridge, NC that is so quick and good that all the guys ask their coach not to make them guard her when they play against each other. her passing is so sharp that many players can't handle the passes.
I was at the 1996 Elite 8 game between Tenn and UVA. UVA should have beaten Tenn but lost when Jenny Boucek got in foul trouble late in the first half. She had held Holdsclaw scoreless up to that point. Debbie Ryan pulled Boucek out and played her sparingly, if she had let Boucek in the game and taken her chances, I still believe UVA would have won. I talked to Boucek about the game years later and voiced my opinion, Boucek said yeah, but she was in foul trouble. My response was that it didn't do the team any good with her on the bench. Jenny said that the loss still bothered her many years later.
I attend a UNC men's game every year and enjoy watching the play and watch the men on TV, but enjoy a good women's matchup as well. The U-Conn womens team years ago with Sue Bird was probably one of the best teams of all time. No, the best women's team cannot beat the best men's team, but that doesn't mean the play is less exciting.
LMAO, buckaroo's attempt to take away from Pat's great accomplishment has failed miserably.
