12 in the Chase?

12 in the 2006 Chase? There were rumors in the Nextel Cup garage at Richmond International Raceway that the field for the Chase for the Nextel Cup could grow from 10 to 12 next season. The argument is based on the fact that there have been at least 12 drivers in contention for a Chase berth up until the final laps of the final race of the "regular season." And it would be two more chances to get top drawing cards like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon into the run for the title if they struggled at some point during the season as they both have this year. NASCAR president Mike Helton said sanctioning body officials will review the Chase at the end of the season to see if adjustments to the format are warranted. "When it was all said and done last year and the dust had settled, we took a look at things and were pretty pleased," he said. "We'll do the same thing at the end of this year. But I can't see anything major coming along."(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
 
As long as Kenseth doesn't win the cup everything should be ok.

Seriously (like that wasn't, haha) I think they need to leave it alone. Changing, changing, changing all the time is not necessary. It's not broke, let's not try to fix it. :)

the system wasn't "broke" before they make the change to ten races..so why not? now i'm not saying they should change it again..i'm just making a point here

Oh I agree 100% it wasn't broken before, But since they felt they needed to change it (for rating purposes only) I say leave it alone. I wish Bill France would leave it alone.
 
there will always be changes, sooner or later that ten races "playoffs" as they call it will vanish.

Unlikely...there is to much money involved in the "chase"
 
it better not change, so what if the two most popular drivers didn't make? It works, well depending on ur views... i thought the one before worked too... but yeah, they better not change it again..

the only change that needs to be made is to change the points system back to the old points systems...if Gordon had gotten into the chase and then had 10 great races it would with out a doubt show how bad the Chase is....Gordon had a sorry year as did Jr, but if either one of those guys had the made the Chase and won the championship, their championship would have been a joke.

if Nascar could have changed the rule to 12 cars betting in before richmond they would have, they would have done whatever they could to get Gordon in since he was very close to making it..Jr is a dift story, he didnt have a shot and was sitting in 17th or 18th in the points.

As I stated I prefer the old system, but since it was changed I want it left alone. If they won't go back to the old way-don't touch it again.
 
^ then why you said "drop the chase" ?

the chase for the cup is kind of unfair IMO in the old point system those outside the top ten would had still had a chance at the championship
 
i wish it would have been 12 drivers this year because harvick might have made it in
 
^ nahhh he wouldn't have..he fnished worse the jeff gordon in the points..so how could he had made it?
 
he should not have finished behind gordon becase he was a head of him the whole race
 
but yet he only managed to up one spot this weekend...2 less then jeff

I disagree completely. Look how far back guys in the top 5 are. Even they wouldn't have a chance at making up the difference under the old system. Far more drivers - 10 - have a legitimate chance under the chase.
