Terrible day. My two favorite drivers were always Jimmy Spencer and Dale Sr. I was really disappointed at the end of the race because Jimmy had a terrible day and Dale crashed on the last lap while running near the front. That was all I knew at the end of the race, because I had rushed out to go to an evening service at church and didn't watch any of the post race coverage. Then I got home a couple hours later, turned on the tv, and was absolutely gutted. I never imagined the crash was as bad as it was; I've seen so many that looked just as bad or worse where the driver ended up being alright.

Dales says, "It ain't that bad, we can finish."

I remember this one, after going air born off turn 2 at Daytona and landing, he was in the Bamalance looked out the window looked at the car sitting on all 4 after the wreck, got out of the bamalance got in the car it started and he drove around to pit road. He was a tuff Son da gun.

Yep.......... I remember that one like it was yesterday.

I still miss him, my family still misses him and Nascar will NEVER be the same. Dale Earnhardt sr. cant be replaced, the mold was broken after he was made

Okay....... at the expense of of boring you guys to death. I don't know if I've posted my feelings about Big E here or not..... if I have.... just disregard this post.

I was never ever a Big E fan....... I hated him for 4 hours a week. I was always a Mark Martin fan. His driving style on the track pissed me off in the worst way. He could wreck a car by making that left slide move and make it look like he never touched 'em. His attitude was ****y. On a seperate side....... I respected him so much for what he could do with a car those 4 hours and I TOTALLY respected him for what he done the rest of the week. I will never forget that day that he got killed. Never ever did I think in my wildest dreams that I would miss a man as much as I miss him. Racing just hasn't been the same for me.

I sure miss you Dale.......

RIP Ralph Dale Earnhardt...........

And never DNF'ed that year :)

This thread is too much. Seeing Big E in crash pics is not right :(

I don't see anything wrong with it because he cheated death so many times. Just like all our favorites. But....... the life they lived was on the edge all the time. They knew........ death was only a heartbeat away........ yet........ they got in that car each and every Sunday.................It's their choice ......... not ours.........

I wanted this thread to be a celebration of Big E's life, not mourning his death. You folks lived up to my expectations. Thanks each and every one of you.

You know....you have a point. Thanks. You made me feel better

I remember I was in high school at the time, well I was getting ready for school and my next door neighbor rushed over and said "man there's a huge crash in the race". At school I was anxious to get home and watch the VCR I'd recorded and temptation got the better of me and I snuck into a classroom with the Internet to look at the results. (This became a Monday morning ritual for me at school). The Internet said Dale was in hospital.

I thought it must have been a heck of a crash but when I watched the race it wasn't the pile up on the back stretch, I watched the last lap and I couldn't understand what had happened until they went into turn 3..

For one of the first times I can remember the Australian media was finally all over NASCAR. Just unfortunately for the wrong reasons.
