For those who grew up in that era, and for anyone else for that matter, what was your favorite muscle car? The 1964 Pontiac GTO started it all and by 1971, all the American manufacturers had their own muscle cars but the decline began because of gas prices, insurance, and government regulations on emissions. I was fortunate to grow up in that era so I lived and breathed and dreamed of owning one of them. I didn't have the money, so needless to say, I was never an owner of a real muscle car. But as I said, I dreamed and there was a big bunch to choose from. I think the first real muscle car that I rode in was a 66 SS 396 Chevelle. When it comes right down to it, that is probably my favorite but I did have other favs as well. The '68 Roadrunner is probably my second favorite. What are your favorite muscle cars from that era? And I'm talking about cars right off the show room floor.

I'd give my left n*t to have my 69 Camaro 396 SS back. Being a car nut I had 2 '55's, 2 '64 Chevelles and a 65 Chevelles at the same time.. All registered etc and so-called "street legal" . Any many others. Drove my Dad nutz.
I feel sorry for those that will never have the opportunity of "bangin' second" and getting pushed back in the seat with your head snappin' back. The scream of a small block Chebby winding up just before shifting or the ground pounding of a big block is better than sex,,,,almost:)

My favorite car ever is a 1970.5 split bumper Camaro. I'd love to find an original one #'s matching. I'd take it over anything out there till this day.

I've always had a spot in my heart for the Olds 442. My dad was a huge Oldsmobile guy. That's pretty much all we ever had growing up.

My Dad's first brand spankin' new car was a 56 Olds, blue and white. Then he built a garage to put it in, can't let it get wet from rain or snowed on. I just recently had the dimples on my back side from those dammm plastic seat covers, gotta save the seats for the next guy, pop out!:D

Too bad Olds is gone.:(

I never had a really nice street car during the "Muscle Car" days, my street car was an old chevy pick up. A buddy of mine had a 70 Road Runner with the 440 6-pack in high school. That thing was wicked fast in a straight line but could'nt make a corner or STOP! Vacumn assisted 4 wheel Drum Brakes!
I've always really liked the 67 Chevy Nova SS and 69 Big Block Chevelles, Great looking cars.

Sometimes I shudder when I think of all the 55-57 Chevys, 65 Chevelle's and 70's Nova's we cut up and made into Stock Cars :(

Instead of staying with the original design, as furd did with the mustang, chebby had to muck [rhymeswith ____] model.
Now they come out with a 1st generation retro to go against the mustang, which never changed and the new challenger. Stupid planning on GM's part. IMHO YMMV

Spring of 1968 I spied a brand new red Torino GT Fastback at our High School janitor/bus driver/ maintenence guys house. I fell in love with that car. Summer of 2002 cruising into Haywarden, Iowa saw this baby sitting in a car lot. I bought it on the spot.

My buddy has a 70 Z28 with 27,000 original miles...Blue with stripes, black interior.

Rub it in What motor is in it? Was the blue with stripes factory because I did see one blue one with white stripes and they said it was factory but I wasn't sure?

The stripes are factory and they are semi-gloss black, not white (if I remember correctly). It's a 350 small block car with A/C. I can't remember if it's auto or manual. He probably has a car for SST also, he has about 75, 60's era Corvettes and Camaros. He had a Yenko and sold it and he also had a couple 67 Z28's. He had 90 cars a few years back but business has been good and people are buying a little more now. He's retired and buys and sells Corvettes and Camaros. He has one Mopar, too, a 70 T/A Challenger, 340 Six-pack.

If he has one like this I'll be right there! Twin to the one I had, except different tires and wheels. Note no chin spoiler,,,thanks to curb stops I replaced 3 of them before I said,,well you know.
