Which of those races had the best finish? Some of you long-time fans, like myself, should have fun kicking this around for discussion. Close call.

It was odd that this year's race had this kind of an ending. Several shows over the weekend talked about the previous wild finishes. In talking about the '79 race, they mentioned that race was on Feb. 18. The race was the first live race on TV flag-to-flag with the east coast under a heavy snowstorm. I was thinking about this year's race being on the same date, and the east under heavy snow from earlier in the week and bitter cold temperatures.

It looks like that's a good receipe for NASCAR. The early ratings appear to be really good and everyone has been talking about the finish.

It's hard for me to decide which of the 3 had the best finish. I was a long-time Petty fan and he was involved in 2 of the 3.

A deep subject for this old lady. LOL

Guess I would have to go with 1976. That was the first race I ever saw, and was just fascinated. And hooked for life. LOL

The following has been the best finish ever for me. Of course, it would of been even better had Davey been first. :)
The 1988 season started with much promise. Davey again started outside the front row for the Daytona 500, the first modern day race utilizing the NASCAR mandated carburetor restrictor plate. While father Bobby was battling up front early in the race, Davey and his team stuggled with a car that was repaired during the early morning hours following a crash in the final practice session. But as the race came to a conclusion, Davey found himself running second, just behind his legendary father. Bobby Allison would go on to hold off his son and win his third Daytona 500. Father and son would celebrate their one-and-two finish in victory lane.

Maybe I should have said most exciting finish. Lots of wild fnishes to chose from, some of those weren't exciting because of the finish itself, but who actually won.
