just so fred lorenzen doesn't get overlooked...

never raced for the championship. most events entered in a season: 29 of 55 in 1963. but...

#5 all time in winning percentage at 16.5% (26 wins in 155 starts) behind only herb thomas, tim flock, david pearson, and richard petty.

in 1964 he won 8 of the 16 races he entered.

Also the first driver to Win more than $100,000 in a season!

Good points klemmabyna, FFlash.

I hated not being able to vote for little Joe Weatherly [sp] too.

Glad you are telling some of their stories, they should never be forgotten.

The photo: "the yellow banana"

A Junior Johnson-built Ford, driven by Fred Lorenzen in Atlanta's Dixie 400, it was built in the spirit of Smokey's 7/8ths car.

-A front end sloped downward
-A lowered roofline
-Narrowed side windows
-the windshield postioned for aerodynamics
-A kicked up tail

well at least that's what I have read about it... could be folklore, but I think it is true
