Still believe Pearson was the best to ever come along. He could drive the wheels off anything they put him in. Knew alot about how to set up the car too.

Back in the day I rooted for Petty. Pearson and Allison were the enemies.

But then I went to the 600 in 1978, and watched Pearson run through the dog leg. It was sweet; I don’t think he missed a mark. I been to Charlotte more times than I can count, but David hit that spot better than anyone I ever saw.

The first apex of the dog leg or the one before the flag, he would just hit a small corner of the grass or dirt, and routinely fling it about 20 feet in the air. I guess that sounds corny, a you would have had to been there thing, but it made a lasting impression on me.

That big old Woods brother Mercury looked like a tank going around the place. The way he got around Greenville Pickens was good to watch as well.

IMO, as good as anybody I have ever seen.

Years ago David ran a shrine race at GPS.

One of the fund racing gigs involved David taking a local radio DJ for a few hot laps.
This was in 81 or 82, and all she could do was hang on to the roll cage.

Well David gave her the full treatment, in technical terms he drove it like "a scalded dog" or had that thang 'Honky Tonking".

Even as a 20 year old, I couldn't believe he did that, I am thinking a 20 second laps with a track very similar to Martinsville.

The DJ wasn't a Caucasian, and David joked that he took a peek a few times, and she was whiter than him.

Loved Peason ,he had a dry wit . He may be in tough next round ,possibly against JJ .
