Round two of the unofficial unauthorized greatest Sprint Cup driver ever polls.

The Round Two polls will be open for five days. 3 regular days + 2 Holidays to allow voters plenty of time.

Round three will consist of the 8 winners from this round.

The ranking order for round three will be, set by the vote counts from this round.
1st- Tiebreaker percentage of votes
2nd- Tiebreaker the original ranking order.

I seriously can't believe that three people have voted for Tony so far.

Cale not only had 83 wins. He also had 319 top tens. And 70 poles.

Tony has 44 wins. 248 top tens and oly 14 poles.

Cale beats the crap out of tony's records up and down.

How can you vote for this guy?

Threads like this usually end up being more of a popularity contest than anything else.

But there is no point just going by stats either . Why would you need a poll ? It has to be a combination of the two to make it interesting .

If one could project another 10 years into the future and see where Tony ends up there might be a case made for him. But as of today, well, it's an easy choice for me.

Everyone make sure you visit my unabashed and slightly biasd thread about Cale Yarborough before you vote!!! See some of his highlights! Watch some cool videos!

It's Here: http://www.racing-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=39969

If Cale Wins I'm throwing a party everyones invited! Where having all you can eat/drink Holly Farms BBQ chicken and Cold Busch Beer!!!

FlFlash, or anyone else. I just addressed FlFlash because we are about the same age.

I will bounce this idea regarding Cale & Junior Johnson to check my thinking or memory.

If I remember correctly Junior started campaigning the Chevy's when Mopar and Ford were the two bigger muscles.

Charging Charlie Glotzbach [sp] drove for him, then I think Bobby Allison ran for him with the Coca-Cola Machine.

When Cale joined up with him in 73 or 74, he was just flat wearing out the Junior's cars. That was my biggest memory, all I had to go on was MRN, and the words of my dad and uncles.

My memory of Cale was the flat out Buddy Baker style. Keeping the pedal down to the firewall. Torching the carburetor past redemption, until the checkers are killing the car, which ever came first.

The first couple of years my Chevy dad and Chevy uncles would just shake their heads, "Cale broke another one".

Finally Junior figured out how to build more bullet proof Chevy reliability to match Cale, and Cale ran off those three consecutive championships.

Are my memories correct, or is their more to the story?

I voted for Tony. I happen to think that he is one of the great drivers.

I don't get it either . Before the chase he was just an average driver out there ridin around for points . He wins a couple races and a second championship (which would not have happened without the chase) and now he's up there wil Cale and Richard and Senior ? Give him a couple of years and we'll see .

Did anyone really look into the stats? Cale ran nearly 600 races spanning 31 years. The first 15 years he raced he was running 50 races a year.

As far as I am concerned, this is like comparing oranges to apples.

OK, that's the number one wrong fact I've ever see.

50 races X 15 years = 750. Cale ran the full season only 7 times, and averaged just 18 races per year.

so doesn't that make the winning percentage even more impressive?
