$20 million worth of land Charlotte wants for the HOF might not come through.

I don't want to start anything negative here so I'll keep this short. Every major sport in this country shows it's appreciation of that sport to the place where it began by putting the HOF in that area. What a slap in the face if NASCAR doesn't put their HOF somewhere in the south, but mainly in North Carolina. Regardless of my thoughts though, it wouldn't surprise me at all if indeed, the powers that be at NASCAR decides that the HOF would be better off in Kansas or for that matter, places west of that. In their quest to better serve the public fans, they have all but closed out the birthplace of NASCAR.

i agree it should be where NASCAR started, in the south.

though i wouldnt mind seeing it in Kansas, Kansas is closer to me then Charlotte.

Buck, from the way I've been reading the news reports is that whatever city that is willing to fund it will get it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Maj, yer probably right about that. Again, it goes with what NASCAR has been of late. However, I'm very surprised that they, NASCAR, isn't making more of a case for Daytona, but with them having the last say, I guess they don't have to make much of a case.

Here's something interesting. The county of Wilkes, here in NC, is pushing for the HOF to be located in North Wilkesboro. They've got a neat story, but it doesn't stand a chance. Talk about being in the sticks. With the direction the sanctioning body is going, there'd better be a city of at least a mil or close near by or they can go stand on their heads in the corner. But if they did choose that place, the people would be able to check out Junior Johnson's stomping grounds and could, and there is still a possibility, find one of his stills. :) Oh the stories I can tell but won't. ;)

buck...id love for it to be in Wilkesboro.....i have fond memories of going to N. Wilkesboro...love the race track!

Its really hard for me to say that it belongs in the southeast. I mean I have a biased opinion because I live in Kansas City. Here is another article dating back to this past January that may follow along the lines of what NASCAR is thinking:

A Case For NASCAR's Hall of Fame in Kansas?

NASCAR has pretty much opened up to proposals where the City would fund the entire project. Charlotte has to figure out how to fund the land purchase now and they're running out of time. I think you can tell just how nervous they are that the area may not get it. I mean Humpy is willing to put forth $50 million dollars for a rail system but has no idea about what is required to go into the project:

But when pressed, Smith admitted he had no idea how much the project would cost, what land would be used, and said he had yet to discuss the monorail with Gov. Mike Easley. Smith said the project would need local and state funds to be completed.

Honestly I think if Charlotte loses out on the HOF bid it would be their own fault by from what I can tell resting on their own laurels.

if charlotte looses out its because Nascar went for the almighty dollar (again) and stuck the HOF in a place that it shouldnt be...a HOF is something that honors the history of the sport...Charlotte or Daytona.....those are the only cities that should have even receieved an invite from NASCAR...NASCAR is not a fad in the southeast.

Money is the name of the game apparently if they are possibly moving the all star race to the Kansas Speedway to tie it in with the HOF weekend. Like I said I cannot be dissappointed like some of you because of the possible new playground in my backyard.

im gonna throw out something very far fetched here....in the past we have heard very unreliable sources and claims that have been put to rest as false that Bruton Smith was thinking of forming a new division if he could pull some very prominent teams with him.

if the all star race is moved from a SMI race track to an ISC...i think its possible it could happen in the future. Bruton Smith owns enough big time tracks that if he pulled the right teams he would be sucessfull. Id love to see it....i love the sport...but damnit i hate NA$CAR (the sancationing body). They run the sport like a bunch of hitmen, (ie. forcing the dirvers to agree with them) and its going to come back and bite them in the butt.

if these teams left NA$CAR they are done...Hendrick, Roush-Yates (one will go where the other goes), RCR, DEI, and Gibbs...its an all or nothing thing here...all of the teams would have to go for it to be sucessfull and it would be a long shot.

I would be happy if NA$CAR did a "National" and an "American" League style...each series races at every race track once a year.....that means more tracks on the schedule...Darlington and Vegas gets 2 dates a year and The Rock and Wilkesboro are opened back up...Also the NY area would get a new track with 2 dates aswell as the Seattle area.

i know im rambling...just typing up some crap...lemme know what ya think.

Bud, this has of course been gone over time and time again and it's an idea that I'd love to see come about, I don't think there's a chance in hell for it to come true. If one looks at what happened in the open wheel circuit when they split, one will notice that the fallout for those series is still happening. The IRL is just now about to stand on it's feet and the CART series is still reeling from the loses they have taken. I don't think that either Smitty or the Frances want something like that to happen. Besides, Smitty is working with the system in that he too is working his way to the west. Remember, it is Smitty that helped shut down the track at North Wilkesboro and Rockingham, two dates that have moved west of the Mississippi River. He would also like to take the remaining date at Darlington and move it west. So you can see that Smitty isn't playing for the traditional crowd.

Smitty has tried before to start something that might work for him with his WoO stint, but that didn't pan out very well and he let that go. I think that about the only way for a split body to work is just like what is going on now, only on a much bigger scene. There are of course, three major series in NASCAR and as long as the logo NASCAR is in front or included in the series, nothing will change. However, if Smitty, or someone else could step in and sponsor the Busch series, or even the truck series and run it up against the NASCAR Cup series, there might be a chance, but not much. Also, there are other series that have been gaining support of late such as the Hooter's Pro Cup series. The biggest obstacle that stands in the way is TV. NASCAR was still floundering until ESPN brought it to the forefront and look at the sport today. One other thing, who in their right mind would want to go head to head against NASCAR's Cup series? Even if someone did get a TV package, I doubt that they would want to challenge NASCAR. Both sanctioning bodies would try to work together to prevent that from happening, but only if the newer body had some clout. Otherwise, NASCAR would just chew them up and spit them out.

I think that the new NASCAR is here to stay and will as long as it draws the crowds and sponsorship. When that begins to fade, something else will step in and take over, but I'd say that is well down the road. If NASCAR is able to draw not only open wheel drivers, but also foreign drivers into the fold, I'd say they are still as strong as they ever have been.

Everything is due today.....Nascar has given the ok for everyone to unveil their proposals to the public today as well.

Charlotte will unveil theirs at 4pm...not sure about the other cities.

as am i N2....i think KC is the front runner....but we'll see.
