Just watched the documentary - wow! In every sense, wow!

As you know, I'm new to your sport, and this gave me such an important lesson in your history. I never really understood why Junior is seen as such a hero - more I thought he was simply trying to follow in his father's great footsteps but never be quite as good.

But what I saw him have to come through that year...how could you not tip your hat to that young kid. Having had similar tragedy at a very similar age, I know that heart ache, but never would I have been able to do what he did.

The aftermath of 9-11 and the patriotism that crowd showed was unbelievable - spine-chilling no doubt. An awful reminder of a day that changed the world we live in.

Replies aren't needed to this but I wanted to put my thoughts into words about your sport and your country.

Ha ha thanks Lisa!
I've thoroughly enjoyed my first full season and only watched 1 f1 race !
You have a good sport

I was still a young fan in 2001, only having watched nascar for about two seasons. That season was both the most terrible and awesome in all the years before and since as a fan. Harvick winning Atlanta in Earnhardts car made me a fan of his for life. Eanrhardt Jr. winning July Daytona brought a tear to my eye.

Yeah I can imagine a lot enjoyed the young harvick winning that day
I have enjoyed reading all your posts Joe.. Even though my enthusiasm for Nascar racing is waning...... it is heartwarming to see new fans..... you make very good posts and fit in very well with the board here.

As far as seeing Harvick win after Sr. died.... I had mixed emotions...... it might have been good.... but... Harvick was ****ey and I never was a Childress fan..... I admired Sr. for who he was ..... but... not Richard..... and still don't... Harvick never really done anything outstanding until he moved to SHR.... he's still a ****y bastard that is full of himself..... but.... at least he's showing he's a ****y bastard that can win races and contend for a Championship... unlike at RCR......

Thanks for the reply. you see, being new I don't know the historiography of these guys and not seeing them before or after the races much I don't get to gauge the true person that they are. I tend to just watch the races. I'd got the impression kh wasn't overly popular but perhaps I now know why. that said there seems to be - like with most sports - plenty of dislike for most drivers at some point! this makes sport so rich and fun I guess. for now I'm still not sure I have a favourite although I have quite a few id prefer to win than others :)
Please no spoilers on this thread about tomorrow's raCE - I'll be watching it on catch up throughout the week whereas this thread pops up in my email! thanks guys

I'm biased, but have to disagree with this. In inferior equipment, he contended for championships and won multiple races, including some crown jewels. No one else at RCR was as strong during his tenure.

When did the equipment become inferior? I seemed to be top notch when Sr. was driving...

I don't think they were ever top notch but close enough that the superior driver could over come
what ever they were lacking. Compare that to Rusty who had equivalent equipment at Penske but failed to get the same results.

Look at Seniors last four years to see that RCR was falling behind. His 2000 season was a bit of a resurgence, but Harvick did about as well as that during his RCR years.

FWIW, I think Rusty would have won the championship in 1993 had he not broken his wrist at Talladega. He had about a month long slump after that, and he only lost the championship by 80 points that year (~20 on the current scale).
