2004: Nextel Cup Series

Its official...in 2004 we have a new name for the elite sport we love!! Thoughts about the new sponsor, or name?
 
Appearantly they have pretty smart associates in the advertiseing department. Going to sound funny for awhile.
 
Jaski's is reporting that a sponsorship deal from AT&T has been turned down by Nascar for Jeff Burton's team because of the Nextel sponsorship. Cingular and Altel will be grandfathered in because of previous sponsorship.
 
HUm? Isn't AT&T a sponsor on Kenseths car? Maybe its because AT&T is not a primary sponsor, that is why theyare not getting grandfathered in. I wounder if they will be able to stay assocaite sponsor on Kenesths car?
 
It may take a while for some of us "old dogs" to learn new tricks, but "Nextel Cup" does have a good sound to it.

I would imagine that any of the wireless companies that are already sponsors/co-sponsors would be grandfathered in.

However, I'm wondering about Racing Radios --- they provide Motorola equipment -- scanners, etc.
 
its amazing how changing one sponsor has an effect on the whole series, series, sponsoship, radio equipment etc
 
After Nov. We will have 21/2 mo. to get use to saying Nextel cup serise. :D

I was wondering how lienient the sponsorship deals would be. Now a days its all me, me, me. Look at the Mcdonalds drive thru compitition. I love how they word it "those teams that CHOOSE to participate".

It definitely won't be as friendly as when Skoal or copenhagen ran sponsor ship in a series sponsored by RJR.
 
I like it a lot, especially the fact that they kept the "cup" in the name. It shouldn't take as much getting used to as if we couldn't still call it just plain "cup" as I often have.

AT&T isn't an associate sponsor on Matt's car this year, otherwise I would think they would be 'grandfathered' in also.
 
Nextel Cup Racing Series just doesn't seem to have the same ring to it, but oh well. Sounds better than the AOL Cup Series or the Microsoft Cup Series.
 
it just sounds funny bc its a 2 syabol name and start with a N! Give it 30 years you will be used to it!
 
i'm not sure i want to wait that long. hehe. Hopefully i can be a billionaire w/in the next 10 years, and then it can be the RPMAllen Cup Series. Yeah, that sounds nice.
