Larry Carter Jumps Ship
Jack Roush has plucked another veteran crew chief from a rival garage, even though he has not been the crew chief for a single race for his current team.
Larry Carter will join Roush Racing in 2007 as the crew chief for Jamie McMurray's No. 26 team, leaving behind Michael Waltrip Racing and a new team that Toyota was starting for the organization. Carter would have been the crew chief for rookie driver David Reutimann next season.
The announcement was made by Ty Norris, the general manager of Michael Waltrip Racing and comes on the heels of the organization recently naming Matt Borland as the new crew chief for Dale Jarrett.
"We only need people who are willing to sacrifice themselves for a period of time for the betterment of our company," Norris told ESPN.com. "You're either in the mode to do it or you do not want to. There were a couple of people who were not willing to do it."
Carter has been with the team since its inception early last season, making preparations for a full-time NEXTEL Cup series schedule this season and preparing cars for Toyota, which will enter the series for the first time.(AHN)
