I was surprised that Chastain Motorsports didn't have an entry.

It was nice to hear the cars running today while I was working in the yard.

Well, I just got back from the track. Rain ended the practice early today but the cars did manage to get some track time.

Alex Lloyd and Mario Dominguez had some crashes today. Mario had a minor one in the wall exiting out of pit lane. Alex wasnt as fortunate. He had major damage hitting an outside wall but he is ok.

And I was there for this one, Danica was coming into her pit box and the crew chief of Dale Coyne Racing stepped out and she struck him. He was knocked out, has a concussion and was taken to the hospital. He will be ok but it was a scary moment.

Congrats to Scott Dixon, nice pole run:beerbang:
1-2 for Ganassi.
5, 6, 7, 9 for AGR :)

Nice Pole Day.

I had to leave around 4:30ish for a mom's day dinner thingy.

I think my eyeballs are sunburned.

Again, today they only qualified the first 11 positions. Tomorrow will be 12-22 if it doesnt rain. Then on Saturday will be 23-33. If it does rain, they will combine both qualifications on Saturday.

Scott Dixon wins the pole. Good job Scott. The Target Chip Ganassi team was strong today, with Dan Wheldon taking 2nd as well. Kudos to Ryan Briscoe in the front row.

Here is the first 11 with thier speed....

1. #9 Scott Dixon - 226.366
2. #10 Dan Wheldon - 226.110
3. #6 Ryan Briscoe -226.080

Well Im back from another day at the track. What a gorgeous day! Weather was great. It was an exciting day. I got to hang out with Danica in her pit box after the 2nd round of practice sets & qualifications. We were watching the speeds on the computers and she was telling me what was going on. I got to give her another nice, big hug for a day well done. She had the pole for awhile. She will start in row 2, position 5. Not bad!

Good Job Danica!!:beerbang:

Thanks for the update.
One question, is Helio as nice as he appears to be?

Yes, he is very nice. Always in a good mood and polite. I was walking near his garage this morning and he walks around to his garage and says good morning all cheerful. A class act.

I'm officially jealous.

Yeah, it definitely is. Last year during the month of May for a fan, he called her mother and wished her a Happy Mother's Day. That was pretty cool.

I have to admit, I've been more interested in watching since he was on DWTS's. :D
Yes, I remember reading about him calling for a fan. :beerbang:

Raining in Indy, no more qualifying until Saturday....bummer, I'll be out of town next weekend and will miss watching it.

Here is a picture of Danica and I down in her pit box.

were you down there for the pit accident? Has the team showed any effects of it?

were you down there for the pit accident? Has the team showed any effects of it?

Yes, I was there. If he were only 5 feet or less away from where he was, it would of been fine. He was talking to someone in Marco's pit crew so he should of been up there closer or behind thier wall in the pit box.

It really was no one's fault, just an accident and a risk you take working in racing like that.

The team was really down after it happened, especially Danica. They didnt run anymore that day but the next day they were focused on qualifying and seemed to be holding up good and in good spirits. They handled it very professionally.

OK, first off, I'm jealous. Second, how'd you go about getting such close contact to pit road?

I am working security at the track this month. Not the yellow shirt safety patrols, but Im working for the IRL itself as security. Along with my security badge, I was given a silver badge. These credentials get me anywhere.

Well, that's fantastic! Nothing like having full access.

And thanks for the updates, keep 'em coming. And Go Danica!

Not a problem. And today was rained out again. So they will combine 2nd and 3rd day qualifications this coming Saturday May 17th. They will fill positions 12-33. So this will be an exciting day. Lots of cars on the track trying to get in.

Awesome! It will be great to get some inside scoops from you!! Great photo, too! :)

Kell5 - Helio truly is the real deal. I posted some pics somewhere from the Kansas race that my friend went to. She had quite the story about Helio. Her first message to me was, "Helio hugged me!" Then when she got some sleep and finally got to tell me the whole story he also bought her a shirt! She and her husband were down by the tent the drivers had been at Friday for autographs & photos, early on race day. Someone backed into her and knocked her sunglasses off her face. It was a guy walking w/Helio. He bent down and picked up her sunglasses for her and then started talking to them. He asked who they were rooting for that day and they said, "Tony Stewart of course!" Helio cracked up. Then he was joking they were wearing Danica gear. My friend told him the shirt was supposed to be for her husband, but it was too small, plus Helio's shirt was $25 and Danica's was $5! She said she wanted to put her foot in her mouth after she said it, but he just laughed and asked her if she would wear his shirt if she had one and she said "Sure." After he left, they started to walk away and this lady inside the tent called her and said, "Wait! Your shirt from Helio!" She couldn't believe it. He earned himself an even greater fan that day. :)

Apparently after being rained out on Sunday, they have changed their mind about no track activity today.

Someone's running the bricks right now.

Jeff Simmons will be making a comeback, well sort-of. He will be attempting to qualify at this year's Indy 500.

He has teamed up with AJ Foyt Racing and will be driving the #41 ABC Supply car for his attempt.
