my only problem with next year's rookies: maybe i'm old school. cause i certainly don't mind the crossover of open wheel racers to nascar. but what i find disappointing is that the reason these guys are looking for/getting these rides has nothing to do with proven stock car experience. cause there is a long, long list of driver's with better credentials in fendered cars.
we're talking about... name recognition... the sponsor dollars behind them... and the LACK OF FUTURE for open wheel racing.
hey nascar: PAY ATTENTION. you used to be the poor step child. til tony george, indy, usac, cart, irl.... hell, all of those big buck prima donnas...
GREED!!!!
learn from the mistakes of others. or risk repeating their mistakes. you've already got one foot sinking in the quicksand.
take a chance: cash in by selling out now. or rediscover and return to the business that made you great. it's your choice.
my opinion: the market is wide open. and what nascar has become isn't the same as what got me started. do you know how many local racing events i can attend for the cost of ONE nascar weekend experience? besides that...
what i always liked about racing was the access to the teams and drivers. that has been lost, thanks to the time demands required by the big dollar sponsors.
now if only the fans were somehow the beneficiaries of any improvement created by all the big money being spent.
nope. that ain't happening. the summit was reached. it's all down hill from here.
racing: it's what occurs at your local weekly short track.
jmo. with the admission that i've become cynical, or maybe just less gullible, as i've gotten older.
