How about offering your predictions for the 2009 Cup season? I'll throw out mine. If anyone comes up with another category, add it to your list. If these are as good as my football picks were, I'll be way off on these. :D

Champion: Jimmie Johnson - As long as that team is together and until someone can beat them, I'm going to pick him.

Rookie of the Year: Joey Logano - Has the best equipment of all ROTY candidates, could make some noise by season's end.

Suprise of the Year: Mark Martin - I predict he will win 5-6 races this year, make the Chase, but will be a non-factor in the Chase.

Most wins: Kyle Busch (again)

Biggest disappointment: Clint Bowyer - Not sure how moving to a new team and a new crew chief will work out for him.

Drivers that will make the Chase:
1. Jimmie Johnson
2. Carl Edwards
3. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
4. Kyle Busch
5. Greg Biffle
6. Jeff Burton
7. Denny Hamlin
8. Mark Martin
9. Matt Kenseth
10. Kevin Harvick
11. Kasey Kahne
12. Jeff Gordon
(no Stewart, Newman, Ku. Busch, Bowyer, or Ragan)

Johnson wins 4th title
Kyle Bush does not win a race
Mark martin wins the 500, coke 600, and brickyard
Edwards wins most races
Smoke wins a duel race
Robby Gordon wins the orther duel
There will be races with less then 43 cars.
Jeff Gordon wins 3 races.
Dale Jr winless, kasey kahne winless.

I dont know yet about the other predictions but I agree, Jimmie Johnson will win 4 in a row.

gimmie jimmie gets four in a row, carl comes second, a race has less than 40 cars.

I dont see any changing of the guard. The chase will end

1. Johnson
2. Edwards
3. Kyle Busch
4. Biffle
5. Jeff Gordon
6. Jeff Burton
7. Dale Jr.
8. Martin
9. Harvick
10. Kenseth
11. Hamlin
12. Ragan

I think Tony and Ryan will struggle throughout the first half of the year. Also i dont see either the merged DEI Ganasi or Petey Gillete being a factor. Soemthing tells me by the end of the year Allmandinger will either replace Sadler or Sorenson full time if he doesnt get a full time sponsor.

I agree that tony and Ryan won't be spectacular in the first half, but i think they'll be within reach.

1. Johnson
2. Edwards
3. Gordon
4. Ky. Busch
5. Dale Jr.
6. Martin
7. Hamlin
8. Biffle
9. Harvick
10. Kenseth
11. Bowyer
12. Jeff Burton
13. Stewart
14. Mears
15. Newman
16. McMurray

Champion: Carl Edwards - he made his point last year.

Rookie of the Year: Scott Speed -- not ragging on Logano. Kevin Harvick beat out Kurt Busch for ROTY in 2001. Ryan Newman beat out Jimmie Johnson for ROTY in 2002. Jamie McMurray beat out Greg Biffle for ROTY in 2003.

Suprise of the Year: Michael Waltrip wins a race.

Most wins: Wildthing

Biggest disappointment: The Economy.

First time winners: David Ragan (Richmond I), Joey Logano (Richmond II in the same number and same track Stewart scored his first career win), David Reutimann (Dover), AJ Allmendinger (Pocono II).

  1. Flipper
  2. Johnson
  3. Wildthing
  4. Ragan
  5. Kenseth
  6. Martin
  7. Happy
  8. Junyer
  9. Hamlin
  10. The Biff
  11. Jeff Gordon
  12. Montoya
  13. Jeff Burton
  14. David Reutimann
  15. AJ Allmendinger or Kasey Kahne

Mark Martin Champion
Kasey Kahne Second
Quite a few races with less than 43 cars, I'll say 7.
Lots of empty seats, due to the economy.
Stewart wins 2 races
Newman gets 4 poles
Kyle Busch only wins once.
Truck Series is in turmoil over new rule changes.
GM, Dodge, pull most if not all of their support out of Cup and the other series as well.
Honda seriously considers entering Nascar.

Soemthing tells me by the end of the year Allmandinger will either replace Sadler or Sorenson full time if he doesnt get a full time sponsor.

I think so, to. Sponsors were moved from Allmendinger's car to Sorenson's car. They're not going to sit back and watch a guy outperform every other RPM car and (just about) every Dodge and not want to be on that car. I like Sorenson, followed him since his ASA days, but I don't think he's Cup material. He'd be better fit in Nationwide or Trucks.

Champion: Jeff Gordon wins #5.

Rookie of the Year: Joey Logano

Suprise of the Year: The 5 runs as good as the rest of the HMS cars.

Most wins: Jeff Gordon

Biggest disappointment: Kasey Khane

Drivers that will make the Chase:
1. Jeff Gordon
2. Jimmy Johnson
3. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
4. Kyle Busch
5. Greg Biffle
6. Jeff Burton
7. Denny Hamlin
8. Mark Martin
9. Matt Kenseth
10. Kevin Harvick
11. Carl Edwards
12. Tony Stewart

Am I the only David Ragan fan?

A few more lighter predictions:
  • Changing of the guard: Brian France leaves NASCAR and takes over Grand-Am Sports Car Racing.
  • Martinsville loses Spring race to Kansas but keeps Chase date.
  • NASCAR caves: Bruton Smith threatens to close Atlanta unless he gets Kentucky race, NASCAR caves and swaps a date from Atlanta or Dover.
  • New Jersey Motorsports Park gets a Truck or Nationwide date as a companion event with Grand-Am.
  • Rockingham Speedway gets a Truck and/or Nationwide date as a coimpanion event with ARCA.
  • Old Dominion Speedway gets a CRA or ASA national event.
  • Fans whine about Pocono races being long and boring and demand Pocono lose a race... Pocono sells most of its seats anyways and keeps 2 500 mile events.
  • Auto Club Speedway falls well below expectations again, Gillian Zucker and ISC reconfigure ACS to clone Homestead before the fall race.

Champion: Carl Edwards - had he not mashed the entire Chase field in the plate race (except for Jimmie), the outcome would have been different.

Rookie of the Year: Logano

Suprise of the Year: Mark Martin

Most wins: Kyle Busch

2009 Season Results
1. Carl Edwards
2. Kyle Busch
3. Jimmie Johnson
4. Matt Kenseth
5. Greg Biffle
6. Kevin Harvick
7. Mark Martin
8. Jeff Burton
9. David Ragan
10. Clint Bowyer
11. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
12. Jamie McMurray

11. Carl Edwards
12. Jamie McMurry

Can't argue about #1! JEFF GORDON ALL THE WAY!

Jimmie is going to go into a slump, but will make the chase and not do bad at all, but I'm thinking something has to change this year. It's just too obvious and everyone thinks it's in the bag for #4, so I'm thinking he's going to have some hard times.

Tony is going to surprise people and also make the Chase, maybe as 12th seed.

1. Jeff Gordon
2. Carl Edwards
3. Jimmie Johnson
4. Kevin Harvick
5. Kyle Bush
6. Jeff Burton
7. Mark Martin
8. Matt Kenseth
9. Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
10. Clint Bowyer
11. Jamie MacMurray
12. Tony Stewart

I'm not really solid on this list because I think we just may see a really good year by David Ragan and Kasey Kane. Tony may not do as well as I hope he does, but right now I'm thinking positive. Jamie may not do as well as I think he might. Mark is the sentimental favorite and while I think he's a much better driver than JR., the expectations were high for him in HMS equipment and he did better, but not great last year. So many ifs.... but there's really no way to know until the season starts. :)

Do we really only have Scott Speed and Joey Sliced Bread to choose from for Rookie of the Year? I wish there was another choice.

I wish there was another choice too, Logano should win it hands down, shouldn't even be remotely close, but stranger things have happened.

Johnson wins 4th title
Kyle Bush does not win a race
Mark martin wins the 500, coke 600, and brickyard
Edwards wins most races
Smoke wins a duel race
Robby Gordon wins the orther duel
There will be races with less then 43 cars.
Jeff Gordon wins 3 races.
Dale Jr winless, kasey kahne winless.

Johnson 4 in a row?....No
Busch wont win a race?......come on dont be silly
Edwards wins most races...possibly
Smoke and Robby...stabs in the dark
43 will start all races
I hope Jeff wins 3
Jr and Kasey winless?...I'd like to think that 1 will win one

I'll pick Speed

Ryan Newman beat out Jimmie Johnson for ROTY in 2002. It's pretty obvious who's had more success.

ROTY does not mean anything long-term. Regan Smith's without a full-time ride.

I think Speed will win Rookie of the Year but Bread will have much more success down the road. Speed and Logano have some stuff in common man. Logano's bodyslam into Sean Peyton reminded me a lot of Scott Speed's retaliation on Stenhouse at Toledo.

Well I was talking to some of Andy's people and they told me----

Lil'E comes out of the closet this year. Later it's revealed that he's been dating Smoke for years and they decide to become life partners... ;)

With a little luck Edwards will be champ
With a little bad luck Johnson won't
or vice-versa
Mark Martin will win 3 races
Speed ROTY
Logano isn't likley to do much, maybe 1 win and alot of wrecked cars.
Stewart-Hass will struggle
Dale jr. will improve but not much
43 cars in all races but alot of start and park
The beginning of the end for California Speedway

My only prediction is that the boys in the fab shop are going to have a lot of overtime this year working on Lagano's car(s).

I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn but in speaking with some guys who have experienced his antics at Ct. tracks if he tries pulling his usual stunts with the big boys he'll be eating a lot of wall.

I really have to wonder about the reasoning that goes on about allowing a 18-19 year old in a Cup car.

I agree he needs more experience before he takes that final leap.

I wasn't real impressed with his little stunt at the showdown. Like I said before, it was very reminicent of Toledo.

All here watching

Thought "that little stunt" was in the offing and well deserved. He obviously had the better car and was pushed out of the way..a la Earnhart.. by a car that couldn't pass him legitimately.. We all thought that little stunt was supposed to happen.
Betsy

Oh, Sellers deserved it. But those antics ain't gonna fly in Spitcup.

I havent seen anybody put Vickers on their chase list but I think that Brian will make the chase....and Speed may just surprise everybody.

Chinese calendar says Year of the Ox.....but I think it might well be the Year of the Bull........RED BULL

OMG.... I'm going to wake up the whole house laughing!!! BP - You just woke up all the muscles I worked at the gym earlier and they're reminding me I made them sore! LMAO

I still want another choice for ROTY! I demand another choice!! :) I think Joey is too young and inexperienced and well, Scott Speed hasn't really shown me much of anything since I've only seen him drive a couple of times. All I really know about him is what I've heard. I think they both might have the guys in the fab. shop really busy. OK, I'm going to change my pick to Speed winning.... just because!!

I still think Logano will do well, I met him down at Stafford a few years back, when he had just turned 17 and was driving a Bush East car. During the race he didn't have the best car, but he showed a lot of patience in working his way up through the field. He is young, immature, and will suffer his share of growing pains. When you think about it though what 18 or 19 kid doesn't? He is in the Depot car for a reason, he knows how to win, can drive the wheels off a car, and there must be a lot of trust in his ability from Coach. I still say he will win a few races and maybe even make the Chase. He is definetly in the Kyle Busch league of talent, but he doesn't show that arrogance, at least not yet.

I think Joey will do well as long as he doesn't get arrogant/whiney like Denny Hamlin. I was really pulling for Denny at first.

Champion: Carl Edwards wins both Nationwide and Sprint Championships
He also wins 7 races in each series, for the most wins

Biggest Surprise: Logano is pressured out of his ride by Home Depot. Bobby Labonte wins Atlanta Spring and later qualifies for the chase.

Biggest Disappointment: Kenseth. Harvick, Boyer and Biffle fail to make the Chase. #07 falls out of the top 35 in points at race 6 and misses 4 races this year.

Top 12
1. Edwards
2. Martin
3. Johnson
4. J. Gordon
5. J. Burton
6. B Labonte
7. Little E
8. Denny Hamlin
9. Kyle Busch
10. Truex
11. Stewart
12. Ragan

Too many times I have predicted the runner up to win the next year going all the way back to Kyle Petty. Now that was a long time ago, but as you all know, Kyle has never won the title and neither has any of my other picks. Most recently I thought that Greg would do it, but it just didn't even come close. One year I picked Jeff Burton as he was hot as a firecracker and the following year he was a dud. I'm not saying that Cousin Carl will be a dud, but I just don't think that he will have all that good of a year next year. I'm looking for a new champ, which means that I don't think that any of the past champs will win. That does open the door for Carl, but I think one of his teammates will have a better chance, say the Biff.

So, my prediction for the champ this coming year is Greg Biffle. AND Jimmie Johnson will finish last of his teammates behind Jr, Martin and Gordon. I believe that all four of them will make the Chace. I believe that Tony will make the Chase, but not Ryan. Also, I'm switching my alliance from Kahne to Stewart this year and still rooting for the Gordons, Jr. and that wild Aussie Ambrose. Yeah, I'll still be happy if Kahne wins a race, but I've followed him for too long and I know his style and I don't care for it. If he ever developes some good consistency, then I might come back but for now, it's Smoke. :beerbang:

Nobody has mentioned Brian Vickers....or his Red Bull team mate Scott Speed.
I do believe that Vickers will make the chase this year..........I'm expecting big things from Red Bull in 09

Traitor......lol:)

I am very disappointed that most of you ranked Jeff Burton so low. :( Y'all are making me want to cry. :(

Heck, many fans had him going into retirement right before he made the switch to Childress. Keep the faith, Burton is a good driver and if his equipment improves ( more HP), he will be a contender.

Burton's a good driver, it's nothing against him. I think the new DEI-Childress engines they've been using the past few years suck though.

I'd like to see an RCR driver win the championship and would love little more than to see Burton win a championship. Burton's definitely pretty high up on the list of drivers I'd like to see win a championship before retiring.

There is no driver more deserving of a Championship then Mark Martin.
There, I said it and I'm not sorry.:D
