Here's a look at the schedule for this years races at Bowman Gray Stadium

April 24 - 200 Lap Modified Race/40 Lap Sportsman Race (Sportmans cars are limited late models, most are crate V8's but there are some 6's)
May 1 - $1 Ladies Night/Demolition Derby (Madhouse Scramble... twin 25 lap mod races)
May 8 - 100 Lap Modified Race
May 15 - 50 Lap Street Stock Race (Madhouse Scramble)
May 22 - 50 Lap Modified Race
May 29 - $1 Ladies Night/100 Lap Modified Race
June 5 - 100 Lap Sportsman Race/Chain Race Double Points Night (Madhouse Scramble)
June 12 - 50 Lap Stadium Stock Race (Madhouse Scramble)
June 19 - $1 Ladies Night/100 Lap Modified Race/Demolition Derby
June 26 - 60 Lap Sportsman Race (Madhouse Scramble)
July 3 - Rain Date
July 10 - $1 Ladies Night/100 Lap Modified Race Double Points Night
July 17 - Night Of Destruction/Monster Truck Car Crushing/Demolition Derby (Madhouse Scramble)
July 24 - $1 Ladies Night/Twin 50 Lap Modified Races
July 31 - Twin 25 Lap Modified Races/Chain Race
August 6 - NWSMT Qualifying/50 Lap Modified Race/Legends/Bandoleros (Three or four northern tour drivers usually come down for the Saturday night race)
August 7 - 199 Lap NWSMT Race/40 Lap Sportsman Race
August 14 - $1 Ladies Night/Demolition Derby (Madhouse Scramble)
August 21 - Season Finale 150 Lap Modified Race/40 Lap Sportsman Race Double Points Night
August 28 - Rain Date (I don't believe it's ever been used)

There are eight Madhouse Scramble races for the mods and they are usually the best races because it's more of a sprint. The longer races are the cone races in which drivers can choose either the outside or inside lane on restarts. This does make for some excitement as it allows those cars in the back to move up.

If you live close enough to Winston Salem, you should come out and have some fun. The gates open at 6:00 with quailifying for the mods at 7:00. Racing starts at 8:00 and usually is over by 11:00. The four cylinder cars are the last to race and if there is a special feature for that night such as demo derby or chain race, those are the last evens of the night. Note to beer drinkers, you can't bring in your own beer but there is a beer drinking section. It gets pretty rowdy there and I stay away from that bunch. You can bring in your own cooler with almost no size limit. We usually bring our supper and eat at the track but there are things you can buy to eat there.

Couldn't tell if that was a race or a parade.

That Chastity part where she was getting Burt or Jasons autograph was my favorite part of the show so far. Especially after she went and hung out with that Brown dude. His wife looked pissed in the background.

Looks like jon boy got a lesson in women that night.I wonder if he is still waiting for her to come by again?

I haven't watched since they moved the show to 11pm. Maybe a gracious member of these forums will by me the DVD set when it's released. :beerbang::beerbang::beerbang:

Go the History Channel and purchase them for yourself. I think they are about $40 per episode.

SST, haven't watched this episode yet. Gotta wait for the wife to get home from work and we'll watch it together. BTW, did you check out any of the races on youtube? The one of last years Whelen Southern tour race is in 9 parts. The winner was Luke Fleming, son of Chris and in that #13 car. Luke was racing that night because he had been suspended from the regular weekly series racing for one race. He drove in the Sportsman division and was overly aggressive, or should I say, completely over his head. He purposely wrecked two or three cars and was finally black flagged. This race was his first in the tour series. BTW, the difference between the usual stadium mods and the tour mods is the 15 inch tires. Regular stadium mods use 10 inch tires.

Three letters for ya...D...V...R. I haven't missed an episode, and I have to get up way too early to watch it at 11:00 at night.

By regular stadium mods do you mean the ones we've been watching? These tires look a lot bigger than 10 inch. most cars are running a 14-15 inch air cleaner, check how they compare.

http://www.bowmangrayracing.com/
Not really sure about that, but I do know that the tour tires are wider. I was thinking that Andy told me that the stadium mod (the ones from Madhouse) were 10 inchers, but what the heck, my memory could be way out of whack. The tour tires are wider though. Looking for the rules and such, maybe it's the wheels that are 10 inches with the 15 inch tires. As I said, I'll ask Andy tomorrow. One thing for sure is that the tour cars are a tad bit slower at the stadium.

The look on his wifes face was awesome. But my Lord Chastity is a good looking girl. Why is she interested in that Brown kid? He's a moron. I guess pickings are slim in that town. Then again I've seen better looking girls go after/married to much more idiotic guys than that.

Anyone else kind of sense that the Brown kid has a little jealousy thing going with the Myers boys? Its one thing to talk smack out of confidence but its another to talk smack with a that jealous undertone he has.

The show still shows too much BS and not enough racing, I think.

Wow, Chastity is something else. I just might have to find that BBQ joint. It's probably in Kernerville, just outside of Winston. BTW, that's where Harvick lives.

As for Jon Boy, he's been around a bunch but just started in the modifieds. Much of what you see is really for the cameras. Jon Boy has about as many fans as Burt, Tim and Junior and the base is growing. If he continues as good as this past year, Chastity might just follow suit.

Chromehorn, you can see most of the races on youtube. Look for Bowman Gray Modifies. I watched a bunch of them the other day. But beware, much of the racing is single file.

Hey Buck, Do the mods, or the other classes run heats at bowman gray?

Used to be some great tracks around here, but alot of the cars have disappeared. Used to go to Raceway 7 on a Frisay night and they would have 40 super lates for a regular show. Now they get 14 to 15 fast track late models. For those that don't know, the difference between a super late and a fastrack is about 400hp.

If the track is tacky, the e-mods will run better laps than the fast track guys.

It's a sign of the times, shrinking car counts. Just a few years ago our Pro Stock, aka late models had 2 heats to determine the 24 statrters out of the35-40 cars that showed up. Only 17 cars on the roster this year,,so far. If not registered by March 1st anyone can claim your number. Most guys I know would let you "date" their wife then see your car on the track with their number on it, your number is sacred.

Same goes for Waterford, Stafford, and Thompson. Fewer cars are registered.

Hard to drop $500 Saturday night on tires, fuel, pit passes when Momma and the kids are hungry.

Racerx, no, they don't run any heats at the stadium. The mods always qualify, but the last few years have been such a low count of cars that anybody there to race will make it. They will allow 24 cars in any class to race a race there and the only class that races more races is the 4 cylinder cars and there are so many of them that some go home. They base who starts on points. I heard today though that the second highest class, limited late models, will have 45 cars that will attempt to race, at least at the beginning of the season. The top ten in that class gets in automatically and then the rest have to qualify. On longer races, all have to qualify for starting positions.

SST, Andy told me today that the regular mods at the stadium run 10 inch wide tires as I thought and that the tour cars run the 15 inchers. BTW, a few years ago Junior Miller was found to have 12 inch tires and would have been DQ'd, but because he didn't have any 10 inch tires, he was allowed to run. The funny thing about this is not that they allowed him to run, but that the kid who caught him knew what he was looking for because he was running 12 inch tires. As you know, with the same wheels, wider tires will make the diameter of the whole unit larger, giving a slight advantage. They are now so strict about this rule that they DQ even though who try to slip by 11 inch tires. Andy told me that they have been running those 10 inchers since he can remember and his family has been running mods forever.

It's just a lot of talk and very little racing. If you only care about the racing part just watch the last 11 mins or so.

I understand that business at Clark's BBQ in Kernersville has picked up this week. No word whether Chastity is still working there or if she has gotten an offer from Playboy. :D

Hmmm 741 miles averaging 65 mph=just a little over 11 hours,,

If I leave now I can be there for breakfast,,

Meh, Chastity doesn't get my engine running. Now give me a brunette or asian with glasses, then we're talking.

Meh, she just strikes me as an airhead, and if I can't have a meaningful conversation with a woman, then I'm just not attracted to her.

you get used to it and quickly. I hardly ever recognize my wife's southern drawl, but her two brothers, that's a horse of a different color altogether.

the southern drawl I don't mind. It's the airhead part.

Tim Brown is the biggest crybaby racer I've ever seen......

I think the guy is loosing his mind. He acted like a crazy person yelling at the fans like that but at least he realized how stupid that was. I thought it was funny that Flemming even thought he went overboard.

Still haven't watched this weeks episode, but I know of the incident. Tim could have most of the house his fans if it wasn't for his attitude and mouth. The kid can flat out drive a modified car and that is one thing that Burt will say about Tim. It's just a shame that he doesn't do more "racing".

I fiinnnaaallly caught up and am up to date. Time Brown's the biggest whiner there is. My wife hated him after the first show, and hates him even more now.

What a fun show this is.:D

Opinions are all over the place on that. Brown fans think that Burt is the biggest whiner. Burt fans think that Tim is tied with Junior, and no body gives a hoot about Chris. Jason and Jon Boy are relatively new in the mods, though Jason has been driving a mod now for about five years. He just has never been up to the level as Burt and thus not as much "headlines". The only time people even hear about these drivers are either in the newspaper or in the winner's circle. Tim, Burt and formerly Junior, have been there more than any of the others that are racing. But of course, that is only in the modified series. The other series have many more winners and more cars. Now there is where you can hear some whining. :)

I thought it was so funny when Tim Brown got knocked out of the way:beerbang:
I did too, but my wife didn't. She's a big Brown fan. Is everyone finally coming to the realization that Junior Miller has only one thing on his mind? Also, Jon Boy is learning from the best at wrecking. The wife asked me why anyone would root for Junior. I told her that a certain driver that drove a black car in the bigs also had the same type of reputation and his fan base was huge. Funny thing about that is that the gas man for that black car is the uncle to the Myers.

BTW, that race was the race the night before the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour raced at the stadium. Besides the flathead Fords that raced, the Legend cars and Bandeleros raced too. The track is terrific for those cars and if you've never seen them race, especially the Bandeloero, you will be surprised at the size of the kids crawling out of them They are teaching them at a very young age. And those kids can race pretty hard. If anyone wants to plan a weekend at Bowman Gray Stadium, this would be a great weekend pf events;

August 6 Strutmasters.com Night presented by 104.1 WTQR; NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour qualifying, 50-lap Modified race, Stadium Stock, Legends, Bandoleros, and Classic Modified races.
August 7 Strutmasters.com 199 presented by 104.1 WTQR (199-lap NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race); 40-lap Sportsman race.

With that schedule you will be able to see the top; BGS car do their thing on 10 tires on Friday and more cars give it a whirl on Saturday with the 15 inch tiresl And you'll get to see the rest of the series race plus a bonus with the Legends and Bandoleros and Flathead Ford Associationl I'll try to get the info on the price of admision. I think that for the first night (Friday) you might be able to get tickets for a buck at local Advance Auto Parts stores but Saturday night's racing will cost a ten spot with free parking You might want to get their early though to get good seats Gates open at six and qualifying starts at seven. Racing begins at eight.

Here's the entire schedule for 2010.

All events are on Saturday nights and include races for all stadium divisions (except Friday, August 6 and Saturday, August 7). Unless otherwise indicated: Saturday programs include two 25-lap Modified races; two 20-lap Sportsman races; 20-lap Street Stock race; and, depending on number of entries, one or two 15-lap Stadium Stock races. Buck,

How old are the races we see on TV? Couple of weeks/months? From last season?

Buck,

That races are all from last season with some clips from seasons before. Also, they aren't always playing them in the right order. I suspect that they are trying to time the end of the series with the opening night this year. This past 50 lapper was the companion race with the tour race the following night and those races are in August and the season ends mid August. The last race is a 199 lapper and is usually one of the better races because it is double points and guys look to move up by hook or crook.

This week's episode was a good one and one that I will never forget. First off, the news of Jon Boy losing his mother was sad, but I didn't know there was a problem in the family. BTW, Jon Boy's brother Bo (Bobo as he is named at the stadium) is following in his brother's footsteps and is a very aggressive driver. He drives in the second to bottom class, but I look for him to move up. Jason removing the gold from his car was good for him, obviously, and I remember well when he did it. It obviously was a good choice. Don't know if he will continue the paint scheme though. I can't believe the show trying to make audiences think that Tim Brown wants to sell his car. Not going to happen and before he would do this, he WOULD consult his brother Ben. What you see in the Madhouse is really for the drama. And remember this, his main sponsor, Hayes Jewelers, is also the main sponsor that year for Junior Miller. Hayes gives Tim plenty of money, but no more for Junior.

By the way, this past weekend, when the Whelen tour was racing at South Boston Speedway, Bowman Gray Stadium had open practice. My friend Andy who owns two mods, neither of which are racing in the Whelen tour, had Jon Boy shake down the car. Jonny boy was very impressed saying that this motor was so much better than what Puddin was giving him. I asked Andy if he had a driver and he said that not for that car (Andy's other car is driven by Bobby Hutchens of Tony Stewart Racing). With Junior Miller now driving for himself and Jon Boy Brown not at all satisfied with what he drives, will there be any more changes? Opening season is just three weeks away. :beerbang:

jon boy needs to get away from junior miller. Picking up bad habits and being called a prince should not be taken as a complement where I come from.

Jonathan won't be a teammate of Junior next year. Miller will be driving for himself. But Jon Boy has always been a very aggressive driver and got the majority of his fans when he was driving a limited late model at the stadium. BTW, the first time I ever heard of him being called a prince was on the Madhouse.
