A short track somewhere
... in the works, looks like the tracks I'll spend most of my time at are Southern National and the Budds Creek racetracks (Potomac, MIR).

I'll be there quite a bit, as well as Virginia Motor Speedway, Winchester, County Line and probably some trips to Delaware. Gonna try and see a new track or two as well.

I'll probably hit VMS for the Commonwealth and a couple others. Maybe Langley once or twice as well.

Most series schedules arent even out for next year, so i have no idea what ill do. I did the showdown at irwindale for 2 years, would have liked to do that again... Maybe i'll check out the rolex 24, i always thought that would be fun to do.

I'm thinking about heading down to Georgia in January for the ARCA-CRA Speedfest races. I wonder how Becca will get screwed out of winning there, like so many times in 2011.

IF I go to the rolex (Got a connection to Fifty Plus Racing), maybe we can meet up.

Dover at a minimum, some WoO race, maybe try to go the NJMP. Another cup race if I could

We'll do our usual every race at Bowman Gray Stadium. Maybe catch a NASCAR Mod tour race here or there. We might have a chance again to see one of the Charlotte races for free in the Gatorade suite. Now that is how you can really enjoy a race. Food and drinks are free and a bathroom very closel All for nothing except the gas to get us there and back. We could possibly make the mod race at Bristol and enjoy a truck race as well.

Yeah, i'm really unsure if im going to that as well. I'm in SC now so the distance isnt a big issue. Only thing im pretty sure of going to is the Trois Rivieres Grand Prix. Ill probably go ahead and renew my tickets in January or whenever they have renewals for 2012. I have the best seats there i think and i dont want to lose them.

If the K&N Pro Series East returns to Bowman Gray in 2012 try to make it to that. They put on an awesome event every time.

I might hit some K&N races. Since I'm banned from Old Dominion, I'll have to travel to see any races so I might as well go to some races that are worth a damn.

Of course, just about every race I've ever gone to (outside of ODS) has been worth a damn. I think ODS and Potomac are the only tracks I've gone to local races at and been completely bored out of my mind (Potomac and the 50 cautions during a 35 lap race).

Pretty much any local race i've gone to (mostly support races for stuff like WoO Late Models) bored me out of my mind. 50 cautions for mostly single car spins. I can do without that crap slowing down a big night of racing...

Langley Speedway puts on a decent show. Not to mention that track played host to the best USAR Pro Cup finish ever. Of course, VADirt won't go there for similar reasons to those of why I will never go back to ODS even if they lift the ban (and they will).

The dirt races generally thrill me as long as they don't take 2 hours to complete a single feature. Some of these tracks, I'd rather not go to.

Bracket racing makes me zZzZzZzZ... but since the dragstrip advertises with the news outlet I work for, I'm basically required to go.

I was hoping to buy another Legends car, but the account won't let it happen in 2012, it is going to be more like 2013.

The last time I had one, I was making payments on the thing (pure insanity). I pulled it with a $400 truck and lawn mower trailer.

I always wanted to do a late model, but you gotta have the money and 4 of 5 friends with 30 plus hours a week to commit, I have neither.

The legends thing will have to wait, until I have the cash, and it will be just a hobby.

I will probably take the wife to a cup race next year, she has never been to one in person.

Would the Stock class, like Street Stock, Mini Stock, or Hornet (FWD) class be any cheaper than the Legends class?

Maybe initially, but a couple of engine rebuilds and tires would most likely minimize the difference.

Plus, I can mechanically keep up with a legends car better, at least that's my experience. I have never been a professional mechanic, welded or fabricated.
Back in the mid 90's I could even get scratch and dent fenders at a cheap price for the legends car.

Two people can also can load and maneuver a broke legends car on the trailer easier, they can pull with a smaller, cheaper tow outfit too.

I tried to put a super stocker together once, I blew the engine practicing, and almost went broke building a new engine.
I also ruined my back picking up or lifting engine blocks, and I have titanium rods in my back as a result.

As a boy my heros were late model drivers, like Butch Linlley , Jack Ingram, and Donnie Bishop. But racing is tough and as demanding as anytning I can comprehend.
Saying it aint easy is a massive understatement.

I would just like to feel like a racer, they say its in the blood, and I believe it.

Ahh, I gotcha. I wouldn't mind trying my hands at racing myself, but I gotta be honest, the sport is too expensive for my taste, even as a hobby.

Bristol & Martinsville are again a certainty for us next year. Bristol tickets already purchased. Waiting on our Martinsville invoice. We may head back to Dover and hope to head back to Charlotte for a HoF trip.

Couple of years ago my son expressed an interest. I looked around and found a decent roller, then laid out the initial cost of the car, motor, trans, tires, fuel etc to him. Plus a trailer. When I got to 12-14 grand, minimum, to run the season, that's if things didn't break, blow and hopefully no major wrecks he said. "Don't think so.."

Better to sit in the stands and watch while consuming a cold adult beverage.

My dad had a dirt late model and we spent ungodly amount of money on it and still didn't have half the car the guys up front had. I can only imagine how much money they are spending.

Yea, even WKA (World Karting Association) style of go-kart racing is expensive. My brother ran at mostly local go-kart tracks, and ran a touring series a few times (was Virginia State Champion two times) and even THAT was expensive.

I guess that's why things like iRacing is very popular for those who want to race as just a hobby.

Yea, but which is more expensive? Racing at the local short track in the Mini stock class, or racing in an organized racing league in iRacing?

I'd assume for really but Iracing will set you back several hundred at least.

Here are the rates for iRacing.

Now keep in mind, that doesn't include the tracks that you don't start out with. If you want to race Sprint cars or Camping World trucks, you gotta pay extra for that. Want to race at a track that isn't in the starter package, gotta race at that too.

Here's what I don't get about iRacing. If I'm already paying a monthly subscription, then why am I having to pay for all the extra stuff as well?

I realize that the company has to make a profit, and I'm fine with that, but to make people pay for more cars and tracks on TOP of a monthly subscription? That goes from trying to make a profit to gouging.
