2013 Championship

like they all say, in order to win the championship, ya gotta beat the 48. I would like a couple of older drivers to win another one, Gordon or Stewart

I thought JJ at the beginning of the season and I am sticking to it.

Biffle!

I'd say at this point it looks like it will come down to the 48, the 20, and the 18, I can't call it between them. But after the last couple seasons it's hard to say after seeing what Tony did in 2011 and Brad's run that started after this Kentucky race last year. Anything could happen.. hey maybe even Joey can make a run for the youngest cup champion record.....

Who do you think will win the championship?

Hey , welcome to the forum Rockears , good question . I'm hoping somebody gets hot in the chase to give JJ a run ,but at this point , I don't see who has consistantly been hot enough to do it . I really like what Jimmy Fennig is doing with Carl this year , and I like that Harvick is putting together some strong finishes. The Gibbs cars seem to be self destructing . We'll see .

It's gonna come down to Johnson & Kenseth with Johnson getting #6 knowing how he operates in the chase.

Kenseth has been on fire this year. I really think it will come down to him and Johnson. But crazy things usually happen. Id like Jr, but he has a problem sealing the deal at the end of races

don't forget the 5.. hes been getting some results... if he can avoid all that bad luck during the chase I wouoldnt be surprised if he managed to get passed Kenseth in the closing laps next time

The 5 needs a good race today to get back on track.

While I agree that Kahne should be considered a serious contender, I don't believe that luck - good or bad - can be predicted (at least not by me) and I refuse to use it as an excuse as every driver experiences both sides.

I'll go with Kenseth but still not sure about the durability of the TRD engine when/if they turn up the juice for the chase.

Waaaaaayyyyyyyy too soon to have a serious discussion about this. Tony's 2011 run should have taught us that.
Exactly. Which is why I still think Joey can do it. Especially after he scores a win tonight. Over the last 5 races the only driver to gain more points than Logano is Harvick. But I still say its impossible to tell. Regular season performance isn't necessarily the best indication. Any one can have 2 or 3 bad races in 10 and its the ones who don't have bad races in the chase that win championships.

Hey man, I can relate. I am still hopeful that the 24 team can get it together and make a run at the Cup. I'll cling to Tony's 2011 run as an example of how a decent team and great driver can go on a tear and shock the world.

I like Kasey Kahne but I feel like he might be a perennial "wild card" / 5-10th spot contender. Would love to be proven wrong.

Wow that may be the first time I got a reply from something I said about Joey that wasn't someone just putting him down lol... Tony's 2011 run and even Brads run last year are the perfect examples of why you cant realistically call it right now. You can guess, and be right in the end, but that doesn't really mean anything. Most ppl are just gona say their favourite driver. At this point Im just hoping Joey can keep the hot streak going and make the chase. Once he makes it I think he can finish top 5 he's always better in those races... Id actually like to see Biffle pull it off too.. just because he would be the first person to get a championship in all three top series, and because no one expects that to happen. Ive always liked Biffle he runs great and quietly for the most part. A lot like Kenseth before this year.

I'm surprised nobody's saying Kevin Harvick. His run this year nearly mirrors Brad Keselowski's last year. Started off slow, got a couple of wins, now he's slowly building momentum toward the Chase. I think it'll come down to the 29, 48, and 78. Kenseth has been a kamikaze driver this year. He hasn't consistently shown the speed. Kurt's shown the speed, Harvick's shown the consistency, and the 48 is just destroying the field.

the reason is that they are too busy drooling over 6th place and dropping Kenseth. the press is fickle as hell. they keep blowing smoke up Kenseth's butt, while meanwhile those of us who are paying attention see that Harvick is on a hot streak, and so is no mention Boyer also.

Remember yesterday you and I had a discussion about laying at the back of the pack and then coming to the front when the time is right. That is what Harvick did last night and it paid off for him. He seems to be doing pretty good here lately.

If Kurt could eliminate the bonehead moves (Sonoma) and get some better luck (Charlotte) then he could easily have 2 or 3 wins at this point. But he's been running real well the last 6-8 weeks.

By eliminating the 'bonehead moves ' , are you suggesting that Kurt run more conservatively ?

I found this on the MRN site:

With 100 laps to go, Kevin Harvick was 40th. He finished third. Harvick had plenty of company. Michael Waltrip, who finished fifth, was 36th with 100 laps to go. Clint Bowyer, who finished fourth, was 29th at the time, and Stewart was 28th. There were more drivers running outside the top 25 then that went to on to finish in the top 10 then drivers running in the top with 100 laps to go.

Now that Kurt is in the top 10 I wonder if he will stay there. My gut tells me no, but damn would I love to see him make the chase! He deserves it.

I'm going to regret asking this but what was Tony Stewart's 2011 run?
