2014 Duels to be at night!

Just read a tweet from Marty Smith. They announced it in driver's meeting.

Funny! That was just mentioned in the pre-race thread. I think it's a smart move! The only concern would be the air and track temperatures.

But it will be spectacular to see these races under the lights!!

I really don't give a flying **** what time of day/night they are:D but from a business/marketing/hype standpoint it makes sense.

Good deal. If I end up going to Daytona next year this works out really well. I can fly in mid day Thursday, check in to the hotel and then head to the track.:)

Is it? I just saw "FOX Sports Media Group". Remember, SPEED Channel is being relaunched as FOX Sports which is why you heard the NFL theme and say "NASCAR on FOX" and "FOX Sports" all day during the Duels.
YIPPEE :sarcasm:

o_O

Do you usually check in at the hotel and then get on the plane???

This will add another dimension to the duels. Will they still practice during the day then race at night like the All Star at Charlott?

Now, a lot of fans will not have to purchase a hotel room for wed night. That could save $100.00 on the trip. Plus some fans might even be able to work a few hours in the morning before they head to the airport.;)

I'm surprised they waited so long to make this decision. Most people are at work when the Duels take place. The down side is the effect it will have on the short tracks in the area that already run all week.

I'm the only one that doesn't like the decision. The thing about having the twins during the day is that, not only is it for qualifying/setting the field, it also gives the teams a great simulation of race day conditions, under actual completion. (practice just doesn't give the same IMO)

Just my opinion, but that's how I feel:)

Besides, Thursday is still a big TV night, I really don't see it helping ratings much. That, and I like the tradition of the twins on Thursday afternoon:)

I agree, but I wonder if this decision was made in anticipation of moving the 500 to night.

I'm setting up a vacation fund through my bank today for next year's Daytona 500. I'll plan on doing Disney as well. The Duels moving to Thursday night will save me a night's lodging and meals due to not having to fly in on Wednesday. I'm thinking that we'll leave on Tuesday. That should be enough time, right?

Hopefully I don't lose my job like when I went to Charlotte last year. (although that turned out to work out very well for me in the long run)
