The 2014 inductees for the "Rock and Roll" hall of fame were announced yesterday. They are...

Cat Stevens
Daryl Hall and John Oates
Nirvana
Kiss
Linda Ronstadt
Peter Gabriel
Andrew Loog Oldham
Brian Epstein
The E Street Band

Again, I am confused. I have nothing against people like Cat Stevens, Hall and Oates, Peter Gabriel, and Linda Ronstadt. Their contributions to the music world have been great, but they aren't rock and roll, are they? Of course, this ship sailed years ago with the inclusion of people like Michael Jackson and Madonna. But, every year it seems to just rub me the wrong way.

Like them or not, Nirvana deserves to be in. Can't say if it's too soon or not, but they really changed the face of rock and roll, and inspired a ton of new bands that have come along (some have come and gone.) I personally think they were the keystone of the whole grunge movement, and the new face of music then (and like I said, whether you like them or not, which, to tell the truth, I really don't like them much)

IMO, Grunge sucks.
I haven't bought any "new" rock & roll in quite some time.
Grunge is hard to nail down. Pearl Jam and Nirvana lead the way, I guess, but other bands were part of the movement as well. I love Pearl Jam, but Nirvana, eh, not so much. Alice in Chains was lumped into that group as well, even though they were more akin to Heavy Metal, same with Soundgarden.

It's funny how iTunes classifies different bands. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are classified as Alternative. I find myself going in on the "info" tab of certain bands are re-classifying them to suit my definition.
Would you say that Temple of The Dog is grunge?

Yeah, I think I would, or alternative.

Since we're on the subject.. Recently watched the new Pearl Jam documentary.. I strongly recommend it.

I'm admittedly not a huge Nirvana fan - they only had a few songs I like. But they deserve to be in.

And Grunge is way better than the emo pop crap of today that's passed off as "Rock and Roll".

The "Rock & Roll" played on local radio stations these days really sucks. I no longer listen to FM radio.

The local rock station here, WROV-FM, refuses to play modern rock. Foo Fighters and Three Days Grace is about the extent of "modern" rock they play and those songs are several years old.

Now, Three Days Grace, I really like a lot even though I don't like a lot of newer rock. Red, Staind, some Bullet For My Valentine, Creed, and a few others are pretty good too.

I dunno, I find each of those pretty formulaic. Creed especially, was the forebearer of faceless "Nickleback" style rock.
