NASCAR'S 2014 Sprint Cup tour is finally starting to take shape, it appears, with Darlington Raceway officially announcing its Southern 500 again on Mother's Day weekend Saturday, May 10th

I'm a little confused. Hasn't that been the weekend that it's been for about the last 7 years?
 
Why wouldn't Darlington want the race on Labor Day weekend? :confused: Long weekend = more people may be able to leave town to see that race. Plus, Labor Day was partially what made the Southern 500 a famous race.

From what I understand, Darlington fans seem to like their new tradition of having the race the Saturday night before Mother's Day.

Besides, more often than not it's just too damn hot in South Carolina during Labor Day weekend.

Imo, The first weekend of college football is probably the reason.
